Chapter Five

The voices were so soft and calming. Their recent use of my name had me worried, but only a little. They had such a calming effect on me that I found it hard to worry about much when surrounded by the canopy of the trees, that I believed the voices to come from. I smiled lightly at the compliments that always came.

Your hair is so lovely Victoria. My smile dropped, and I shuddered.

You’re so beautiful Victoria. Again I shuddered. Why had they begun to say my name?

Because we love you Victoria. Any calm that I once possessed was now gone.

“I don’t understand. What do you mean?” Their declaration of love seemed odd to me. Not once had they mentioned love before, and now all of a sudden they were head over hills? It didn’t make sense.

You’ll find out soon. It took me a moment to calm myself.

“When? When will I find out?” There was no answer. The voices had gone, and I was left alone to my own thoughts.

I wondered around the vast forest floor until I was sure that I had gotten myself lost, and then I kept wondering. I wasn’t sure how much time had past, only that the sun was setting. The way home was a mystery to me, and when I tried the voices there was no answer. They had never not helped me before, but I guess that they were doing a lot of things that they had never done before. I tried to guess my way home, but only ended up becoming more and more lost. The forest was a vast and endless place.

I could barely see the sun now, and was starting to worry. I had never been in the woods after dark. During the day the woods felt comfortable and full of life, but at night I always found them to be a dark haunting place. If I could just find the road I’d be fine, but I didn’t know which way to go. There was no noise other than the sound of nightlife starting to stir.

I sat down, and tried to think. Which way had I come from? I couldn’t remember. I had been in my own thoughts for far too long. My eye’s shut, I tried to calm myself, but to no avail. This was hopeless. I was going to spend the night here, and I was not happy about it. If though' stupid voices would just come back, and help me then I’d be fine. They weren’t going to help me tonight. I knew that, but I couldn’t help but throw angry profanities at them.

“You stupid stupid voices! Why won’t you help me? Cant you see that I’m lost?” I yelled angrily at nothing. The fading light had me panicking. “Please. Please just tell me how to get out of here.” I was becoming desperate. I was terrified of what hid in the den of night. “Please” I was on the verge of tears.

“What is it that you need help with?” I screamed. There was a man dressed in only pants standing behind me.

“w-who are you?” He had golden-yellow eye’s, and crimson hair.

“Are you lost?” He spoke in a distinctly British accent. He also ignored my question. I stood and started to back away, until I hit a tree.

“N-no. I’m not.” I lied instantly.

“Are you sure? You seem lost. Does any one know your out here?” he was tan, and had washboard abs. I liked my lips, and then shook my head violently. I should not be having thoughts like that at a time like this.

“Yes. I’m meeting someone.” I lied. If this stranger knew the truth there was no telling what he’d do to me.

“Hmm… perhaps you should meet them elsewhere then.” He tilted his head to the side, almost as if he was listening for something.

“why?” There was more strength in my voice this time.

“I’ve seen you before.” He ignored my question again.
