I love this weather. I thought, inhaling the exotic scent of the cold air.
I smiled at the security team as I punched in my passcode and swiped my card. The double doors of our department office opened and I happily got inside.
"Hey Rein, I thought you would be late for the first time." Mike, a workmate of mine mischievously leans his face across the desk when he spotted me.
"Not gonna happen, Mikey." I winked at him, stretching my arms.
He laughs but continued on whatever it was that he's working on.
I started my computer and log on to our network. There are designs I have to finish and I have to do it fast. The deadline is today, specifically at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. I need to email it all before the time and our boss would freak out if I send it even a second late.
I look at my watch and set its timer. 8:01AM. It will alarm after 5 hours which means I have to finish all my designs after by that time.

I jolted when someone suddenly hugged me from behind. My breath caught when Lance, my boyfriend whispered something into my ears.
"Hey, babe," he said huskily. "Want to have dinner with me tonight?"
I whirled around to face him, beaming with excitement. "Of course."
He smiled at my reaction and kissed me before standing up. "I'll pick you up later, then," he said.
He winked before turning to leave. I sighed in admiration. It's been already 4 months since we started dating and I am deeply grateful for being so lucky.
I heard a "Tsk" so I looked around to see who it was. I found the disapproving face of Mike.
I frowned. "Hey! Mind your own business, Mikey."
He shrugged. "Public display of affection is strictly prohibited. You know that."
"Just keep your mouth shut and we're good," I replied.
He shrugged again but didn't say a thing anymore. He just went back to his work.
Mike here is a good friend, but we're not really that close. So I don't understand why he always has that reaction when it comes to my boyfriend.
Lance, my boyfriend, is also working here but in a different department. Relationships within the company are not restricted but displays of affection are. So Lance and I keep our hands off each other when we are at work. But a quick and chaste kiss will not likely land us a suspension. I know that. Mike was just being annoying, as usual.
34 minutes later and I heard the sound of my alarm. I turned it off and began stretching my muscles. I smiled as I take one last look at my designs. I already emailed it to my boss so I'm free for now.
After a couple of minutes, I heard the ping sound that signaled the arrival of a new message. It was from my boss.
Great Job! You're free for the rest of the afternoon. You can log out now. Thank you, Rein.
I grinned triumphantly, typing a thank you message to my boss.
I still have more time to prepare for my dinner with Lance, I thought happily. I cleaned my desk and hurriedly went out without even a backward glance.
