Metallurgy is the study of metals. They are physical and chemical metallurgy. A Metallurgist is individual who researches, manufactures and develops metal items that range from car parts to semiconductors.

Metallurgy may be classified into three following branches:Extractive Metallurgy.Mechanical Metallurgy.Physical Metallurgy.

Extractive Metallurgy includes mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, and electro metallurgy processes to separate commercially valuable metals from their ores. Mineral processing includes processes to break down the ore by crushing, grinding, sieving 

Mechanical metallurgy: this is the interface between an alloy's mechanical behavior, the processing used to produce the alloy, and the underlying structure ranging from the atomic to macroscopic level.

Physical metallurgy is the science of making useful products out of metals. Metal parts can be made in a variety of ways, depending on the shape, properties, and cost desired in the finished product.eg  magnesium, cadmium, zinc, and alpha titanium. Metals with the fcc {arrangement of atoms} structure include aluminum, copper, nickel, gamma iron, gold, and silver.

Metallurgy requires a lot of specialized equipment to get jobs done. Dealing with molten metals is not an easy task, so industrial equipment is used in many different ways, with the most obvious being furnaces.

Metallurgy concerning extraction of metal from ore or metal compounds is very important industry that supplies metallic material with special properties for applications in many fields.
