I am not the kind of girl who believes in falling in love at first sight.
But you got to give it to Brian, he did make quite a first impression.
With a strong, chiseled face, a perfect straight nose and messy blond hair that falls over his forehead, he was quite a sight. His shockinlgly blue eyes seemed to send shivers down my back. And from the way his shirt fit him, I knew that every girl in our school would die to see what was underneath it.
Not that I'm saying I wasn't.
"He is rather good looking" Vicky said glancing at him.
"What do you know? The school has some sensible people left after all" I replied trying not to stare at him. I knew I'll end up getting hurt.
Hurt, because he might not feel the same way about me.
Hurt, because he might break my trust.
Hurt, because he'll probably fall in love with my best friend.
Zip it with the emotional crap, I scolded myself.
I tightened my ponytail and checked if my curly, brown hair was uncontrollably frizzy like it usually is when a cute guy is around. In this case extremely HOT. I checked my nails which weren't painted. I'm way too lazy to sit in one place and actually paint those things. And as if that isn't enough, I have to wait for them to dry! But at that moment, I wished I had cared a bit more about my looks.
Just then, I caught Vicky calling Brian over to our table.
"Vicky!" I hissed under my breath.
"What?" She smiled at me innocently, as if that explained everything. I flashed one last dirty look at her when Brian reached our table.
Immediately, Vicky flashed him her flirty smile, stuck her right hand at him and said "Welcome to Atlantic High! I'm Victoria and and this is my friend, Zoe. You are...?"
"Brian" he replied, smiling. "Brian Radcliff".
I sucked in a huge breath. His voice was deep and manly enough to make me swoon. I was never a huge fan of Taylor Swift, and I always thought her lyrics were ridiculously cliche, but I swear I could see sparks fly when he smiled. His teeth were perfect, just like the rest of his face. He wasn't even flirty but you still could'nt help but like him. Wow... a guy not flirting with Veronica? That has got to be a first.
"Want to join us?" Victoria said, batting her eyelashes at him. I was too caught up gazing at Brian's face to roll my eyes. She was going way over-the-top, as usual. But that dosen't really matter when you're the hottest girl in school. Not one guy could refuse a seat next to Vicky.
"I'm sorry but I've already agreed to sit with someone. But thanks" he said, his handsome face was politely sorry.
On the other hand, Vicky looked like someone had slapped her in the face...with a fish.
Before she could embarrass herself, I immediately came to her rescue. Well, not immediately cause I myself was having some trouble thinking.
"No problem. Maybe we could hang out later?"I said, my heart beating so loud I was afraid he could hear it. It was a wonder my voice came out clear and smooth. It was a wonder my voice came out at all.
"Sure. I would like that" he replied, grinning at me. I thought I had lost my ability to speak by then.
He glanced at Vicky.
"See you both later then" he said striding away.
"Bye" I managed weakly and smiled.
God! what is wrong with me?, I thought. My stupid heart was beating erratically cause a guy I don't even know smiled?!
"Did you hear that?!" she shrieked to me.
"Yea... He said...no" I replied still smiling like an idiot. But I was impressed. Not only was he irrefutably gorgeous but he also seemed to be true to his word. He didn't bail on his friends cause a pretty girl asked him to sit with her.
"...He said NO! I mean, why would say no to me?!" Vicky said, babbling on and on. I was lost in my own thoughts about him to notice what Vicky was saying.
"I'm determined to make him fall for me. It's a promise I make to myself" she said. I nodded absent-minded until I realised what she had said.
"Wait... WHAT?!" I said, shocked at the idea.
"Oh, don't look so astonished, Zoe. Just think of it as a really exciting challenge." she said, a slow, evil grin spreading across her face.
"But...you can't just..." I stuttered.
"Oh, Come on! It isn't the first time! What's gotten into you?" she said raising her perfectly shaped eyebrows at me.
"Yea..." I thought to myself. Why did I care? It wasn't the first time Vicky played with a guy's feeling. But I still couldn't deny the fact than my pale face was going green with envy at the thought of Victoria and Brian arm in arm.
