there wasn't really a time when mark and haechan familiarized themselves with boundaries; the need for mutual space or healthy separation away from one another, specifically.

from the beginning, that term was thrown right out the window; as it didn't take the tight-knit pair long to grow accustomed to things normal friends would likely raise eyebrows over.

they often lacked the idea of being apart: regularly invading each other's personal space, constantly stealing one another's clothes, and continuously exchanging borderline gag-worthy affection (mainly haechan) at any given chance — even when they aren't alone.

things like mark's fleeting pecks on the corners of haechan's mouth after a long day, or haechan obnoxiously slipping out endearing nicknames for the elder; ranging anywhere from 'heart eyes' - to 'canada' (a random habit haechan started on a whim while they were still minors).

it doesn't quite matter how subtle or bold their affirmations are, so long as they prove how lowkey obsessed the duo is with each other.

it's why none of their hyungs are surprised when mark and haechan are holed up in their lonesome corner during 127's rehearsal break; haechan curled up in mark's lap with his knees up as mark fluffs his messy hair around. his back hunches over in typical haechan fashion, shoulders flushing against the curve of mark's damp neckline.

as mark runs his fingers through the uneven strands of brown tress with a bright smile, the elder notices its volume, full and lively, even while it's somewhat matted down to his forehead from moisture. he also feels a spike of pride when his fingertips stroking the nape of haechan's neck wound up straightening haechan's body like he's suddenly being plagued by a brick wall behind him. mark smirks satisfactory.

mark, whose personality is regularly much calmer (and arguably more reasonable) than that of his sparky, strong-minded best friend, soon finds himself boisterously giggling at a lame joke haechan quips for the sake of easing their mutual tiredness. because haechan knows he and mark are reaching a point of exhaustion, and anything to take his mind off such will do.

what the duo is unaware of from across the room, though, is how much the scene before their older members looks sweetly similar to a beloved comfort toy in a small kid's arm. at the sound of mark's chuckles, specifically, ringing so naturally in the air, the group doesn't miss the opportunity to coo repeatedly from the distance. they resume the act of minding their business just as quickly, however, once they're aware their teasing falls on deaf ears.

it's just like mark and haechan to get so wrapped up in the presence of each other that the outside world doesn't seem to exist. a world they've recently become sucked back into at that.

sadly, the group's short-lived break recently ended, and the entirety of 127 are positive time has never moved quite as quickly as their solicited one. upon their return, they were immediately thrown back into the chaos of scheduling, rehearsing, and preparations for their sets of upcoming home-based tours. just last week, they did the jacket shoot for the group's upcoming comeback, each member adapting completely brand new styles and looks for their approaching era.

still, in a rather ironic way, both mark and haechan are ecstatic to be back.

yes, the sore muscles and buzz from utter lack of sleep, dwindling more with each passing month, leaves them feeling a little resentful sometimes, but they always find ways to remember why they do this; how much they love their careers. the reasons they adore the jolt of energy exchanging between them as they bounce from unit to unit; with more care and responsibilities nestling on their shoulders than they allow to show or express. in the end, the overwhelming unbalance between their lives outside of being idols and their dedication to their careers is their sanity, ironically.
