Lara stared out the window of the Daedalus, much like she had every morning for the past three weeks. Deep space travel was remarkably beautiful, she thought as she sipped on the hot coffee in her hands. There were many things she had thought she would experience in life–visiting every continent on Earth, learning as many languages as possible, eating Earth's rarest and most coveted food. Travelling in a spaceship to another galaxy to settle in the lost city of Atlantis after learning about the Ancients... had not been on any of her lists.

It had been five years since she learned about the Ancients and all that was the Stargate, but she was still struggling to grasp it all. Just thinking about it made her head spin and body tingle with excitement and a smidge of fear.

'You'll have to remember to breathe, Lara, or this is going to be a very short assignment.'

She turned to face her friend. While it all was scary, she was thankfully not going alone. 'How are you so calm, Itachi?'

'Logic dictates that remaining calm is the best option. Not to mention, it's the only way to make sure you stay alive, apparently.'

'Funny. Aren't you excited at all?' she asked and took the seat in front of him.

'I've never been so excited in my life.'

She laughed. 'If I didn't know you as well as I did, I might have thought you were being sarcastic.'

'One would think knowing me so well would make it so you knew I was being excited in the first place,' he retorted.

'Please. I know you, that doesn't mean I can read your damn mind. You had someone in the city already, right?'

'My cousin, yeah. He was part of the first exploration group.'

She swiped on the tablet to her left, bringing forward a new document. 'Did you know at the time?'

'No. We were told he was assigned to a black ops mission abroad, but nothing else. When I found out it suddenly made sense. I'm glad he survived it all.'

'I read the report on the siege. Must have been absolutely terrifying.'

'Yeah. I did too.'

The door to the mess halls slid open with a low hiss. Lindsey Novak stepped inside, giving them a big smile as she noticed them. 'Good morning. You two are always awake so early. Having trouble sleeping?'

'Good morning, Dr. Novak,' Lara greeted. 'Itachi doesn't have a sleep schedule to speak about... and I'm not that far behind either.'

'It's common here. People find it difficult to find a pattern to really follow,' she said and continued to ramble for another few minutes. 'Oh, look at me go. I'm sorry. I should get back to my station, my shift is about to start.'

'Have a good shift, Dr. Novak,' Lara said with a slight wave. She waited until they were alone once again. 'She's very sweet.'

'She talks a lot.'

'I don't think she gets a lot of socialising up here. Hermiod isn't very talkative either.'

'You've been down in engineering?' he asked, raising a brow as he leaned back in his chair.

'Naturally. When would I otherwise meet someone from Asgard? It's a treasure trove.'

'Did you learn something new?'

'A few words. He seemed appreciative of my basic knowledge of Asgardian, but that might just be me projecting. I did learn some signs from their controls.'

'Aren't you lucky? Maybe next time you could learn something useful, like how to make it,' he smirked.

She rolled her eyes at him. 'I've got the basics of ancient technology from you and Dr. Jackson. Now how would you know so much about it if people like me didn't translate the writings for you, hmm?'
