Pride and Pizza

Michael led you to a small counter. There was a boy who looked to be around 16, his brown hair in a disheveled mess and eyebags so large you wondered if he'd ever slept. If you squinted, he looked kind of like Evan. When he noticed the two of you approaching, he stood upright and adjusted his uniform a little.

"Ah, Mike! Good to see you," He said, offering a tired smile. He turned to you. "And, um, I'm sorry, I don't think I know you."

"This is Y/N," Michael said, gesturing to you. "Y/N, this is Gregory. By far one of the hardest workers here at the diner."

"It's nice to meet you." You told him, giving him a smile.

He scratched the back of his neck, laughing a little. "You kiddin'? Pleasure's all mine. Mike doesn't bring company very often."

"Oh really?" You turned to look at him, but he was too busy glaring daggers at poor Gregory to notice.

"Just get us some pizza you wannabe." He muttered, causing Gregory to roll his eyes.

"The usual?"

Michael turned to you. "Um, do you like pepperoni?"

"Yeah, sounds good."

He went to open his wallet when Gregory stopped him. "Ah, ah, ah. No way." He waved a disapproving finger in Michael's face. "The boss's son doesn't have to pay for his meal."

He scoffed. "Just let me pay dammit. Father will be upset with you if he finds out you're giving away freebies again."

Gregory just shrugged. "It's not like the pay here is amazing, I can always get another job if Mr. Afton decides to fire me."

"You shouldn't think like that," Mike sighed, running a hand through his hair. "At least let me tip you, man."

"Fine, fine. I suppose I can allow it." Gregory gave him a little shit-eating grin as he took five bucks from the Afton's hand. "Pizza should be done in a few. I'll bring it out to ya."

He waved as he walked into the kitchen. Michael turned back to you. "Sorry about him. He's kind of like a younger brother to me, just, more annoying."

"I think it's sweet," You told him. "He seems like a good kid."

He smiled and walked you over to a small table not too far from the counter. "I was thinking, after we eat, I can show you around a little. There's a small room full of these cheap arcade machines that I'm sure you'd enjoy."

"Really?" You looked around, but you didn't see what he was talking about.

"Yeah, it's just kind of hidden." He shrugged. "Not sure why, but maybe it's just the layout of the building."

You hummed. "Are there any other hidden rooms?"

He tapped his chin, as if thinking for a moment. "Well, I could always take you into the 'employee only' areas. Father isn't here right now and Uncle Henry won't mind at all if we go in."

"I've been meaning to ask, why do you call Henry your uncle?" You asked.

"Well, he and my father have been close since their college days. When you spend that much time together you become kind of like brothers, I guess. I think it was mother who called him 'uncle' the first time, and it just kind of stuck."

You smiled. Half of you wanted to ask about his mom, but you didn't want to spoil the moment. You watched as he rested his head on the palm of his hand. He was smiling, his eyes examining your features. You couldn't help but blush a little.

Before either of you could say anything, you heard a familiar voice. "Order up!"

The two of you turned to see none other than Gregory, grinning as he held up a tray of pepperoni pizza. "Pepperoni pizza, cooked to perfection for my favorite Afton and his new friend, Y/N."

"Thanks Gregory," you both said in unison.

He set the pizza down in front of you, giving you both a little wave as he went back to the counter. You grabbed a piece of the pizza, placing it on the plastic plate in front of you. It smelled amazing, which you weren't expecting.

Michael seemed to notice your confusion and laughed. "When Gregory's in the kitchen things actually get made correctly. Sorry if you wanted to experience the bad pizza, we got lucky this time."

You took a bite, and he was right. The pizza was pretty damn good. "That kid really does know how to cook."

"No kidding." He grinned. "But don't worry, there's plenty of other cheap things about the diner."

You raised an eyebrow. "Please, do tell."

"Well, look over there." He gestured to one of the walls that was littered with cute little drawings from kids who had visited. They ranged from stick figure families to crude drawings of the animatronics. "Those pictures? They're hiding a bunch of rips in the wallpaper."

You couldn't help but laugh. "Whose brilliant idea was that?"

"That would be my father's." Michael chuckled as he took a bite of pizza. "He's more keen on cutting corners. Uncle Henry wants to do things the right way, but my father can be quite..." He paused, searching for the right word.

"Charming?" You offered. He nodded, seeming to like that answer. "Well, that trait seems to run in the family."

This time you could see it clearly: Michael's face turning pink. He was quick to stuff his face with another bite of pizza.

"Hey, what's the bunny animatronic's name?" You asked, changing the subject.

He finished chewing before he gave you his answer. "That's Springbonnie. I don't like him very much, but he's my father's personal creation, so perhaps I'm biased."

You hummed in response, looking over at the animatronics once again. Maybe that's why you felt like it had been unsettling, he was a creature of William's design, a man who always had an unsettling aura about him, though you could never really place why. Maybe it was the sickly paleness of his skin, or the way his smiles would always seem to fit oddly on his face.

"Hey Mike!" You turned to see three figures approaching your table. A confused look crossed your features. All three of them had a mask on one side of their faces. One had a bear, the other was a bunny, and the third was a chicken. "What a cute date!"
