May 20th came. Maggie was trembling with nervousness and excitement, she was walking back and forth in front of the History bookshelves. She was early, she arrived at the Library at 4:30 PM. She spent her time reading but after one hour of unfocused reading she put the book in the table and started walking to ease her nerves.
At 6PM, no one is in sight except for the Librarian.
He must be running late, she thought.
At 7:00, she started fidgeting and worrying.
At 8:00, the Librarian reminded her of the closing time.
At 9:00 she went home.
No Renato came to meet him.
When she got to the University the next day, she immediately went to the Library, and there it was, a message from Renato.
You did not come.
She furrowed her eyebrows, confused and a little bit angry.
What the heck is he saying? She thought.
She replied, her pen grazing hardly on the thin paper that almost got holes on it.
I came. I waited, you are the one who did not come.
She pressed it firmly on the same book and left for her class.
Lunch came, but instead of going to the cafeteria, she went to the Library and plans to check if Renato responded already - it happened before, when she
answered in the morning, she received a reply in the same day, so she thought that the same could happen again - and she was right, Renato responded, but something about his response bothered her. What do you mean? Maybe you forgot the time but it should be at 7 in the evening of May 20th, 1921. Right?
"What? What 1921? Is this a prank?!" she said a little louder than what she intended to. She heard the firm "Shh!!" of the librarian but it doesn't bother her much. Maggie immediately constructed a response.
What do you mean 1921? We agreed to meet at 7PM, May 20, 2021. What are you talking about?
After putting the book on the shelf, she decided to go home.
She was walking in front of their University's bulletin board when she noticed that something new is added there.
Commemoration of the 100th year anniversary of the fire that erupted in Unibersidad dela Mercedes 1801-1921 (University of Mercede 1923-present)
She didn't know that there was a fire accident in the University, so she approached the bulletin board, the faces and names of the students who died in the fire were posted. She was scanning the faces when it stopped on a certain man, he looked familiar for her - too familiar that made her winced. She read the name below the picture, 12. Renato Marquez was written there. It bothered her a little, but what bothered her more was the picture below Renato's.
It was her. Different hairstyle from her, but still her.
13. Margarita Salcedo.
