Y/N's POV:
You wake in a bed, it's your room in Tompkin's manor that you were meant to share with Ellie and Lottie, but the other beds in the room are made and clean with no suitcases or towels flung across the floor like there normally would be. Where is everyone? What happened? What time is it?
The door creaks open and Jamie walks into the room with his eyes on the floor, an unreadable expression on his face.
You shoot up and scramble out of bed, but feel more light headed than expected and wobble slightly.
"You're awake." He says, smiling subtly before stepping over, the strength and height returning to his gait, the glint in his intense eyes reappearing.
He's hiding something.
"I feel...horrible." You murmur, noticing how raspy your voice sounds. .
An open window lets in a cold breeze, causing goosebumps to prickle your skin.
Jamie meets your eyes. "I'm glad you're alive."
You stand there for a few seconds more, offering a weak smile.
Another cool wind breezes into the room and before you can reach to shut the window, Jamie pulls you into a hug.
Your breath hitches as his arms wrap around you, but then you relax into his tall, firm body, breathing in his cinnamon scent. He has never shown any sign of affection in the year you've known him and none of it matters in that moment, a sense of security filling you with relief in his arms.
But then he lets go, and you're cold again.
He shuts the window across the room and pulls off his hoodie, throwing it to you. "Let's go." He says, his eyes reflecting the light from outside. His dark hair falls messily onto his forehead, framing his sharp features.
You pull on the hoodie and follow him, a strange thought coming to mind, a thought that can't be real, a random, crazy thought.
I like Jamie Volk

Jamie's POV:
As Y/N and I leave her room, I tell myself over and over that I shouldn't have hugged her. I never hugged anyone, the last time I did I was 9. But when I saw her standing there, shivering, flushed and confused...that's all I wanted to do.
I was so concerned about her, so scared. She had slept the rest of the day, through the night and late into the morning after our encounter with Ingrid and Julius. Whereas I couldn't sleep at all.
Lottie and Ellie visited her a few times and I explained what I thought had caused the Y/N's unconsciousness, but no one else knew it had even happened. We told the others that she didn't feel well and they didn't question much further.
She's distracting me again.
And I've made it worse by hugging her. Because now I want to hug her again, to hold her hand, to never let go. Every time she walks into a room I can hardly draw my eyes away from her, she fascinates me, entrances me.
But I can't feel for her, I won't allow it.
I have a duty, and that will never change.

Y/N's POV:
"You look tired." You say to Jamie, the warmth of his hoodie comforting you, it smells like him.
"Don't you want to know what happened?" He snaps, increasing his pace.
"Yes...but it looks like you haven't slept in a week." You reply, your mind still racing with that strange, obvious thought even though you know you should be focusing on quite literally anything else
