Malik Winters woke up covered in sweat. His bonnet covered his head as his whitebeater had been coated in his sweat, along with his bed. He heard his name being called.

"MALIK! MALIK! BOY WAKE THE HELL UP AND SHOWER! DON'T MAKE ME COME IN THAT DAMN ROOM!"

His mother had been calling him. This had been the fourth time that he had this dream. And each time he woke up, he was covered in sweat and his neck hurt. His body felt weird. Like he couldn't properly feel his body. He felt detached. He had gotten checked out at the hospital, but everything was okay. But words still echoed in his head.

"I am blessing one of the items your father once possessed. Find it, Malik."

Malik got up and called out to his mother.

"SORRY- I'M UP, MA! I'M GOIN'!"

Ten Minutes Pass

Malik wiped the steam-coated mirror and looked at himself, analyzing his look. He had smooth chocolate skin, brown eyes, and when he took off his bonet, he had black locs with blue highlights that led down to his neck. He shook his head, making them start to fly and whip around.

He looked at himself again and noticed his chin had more coal colored facial hair. He chuckled and looked at his body. He wiped the mirror again as it had been fogging up once more and sighed. His body was defined, but not too much. Just enough to see that he wasn't skinny.

He heard his mother shouting again, talking about how he needed to hurry up. He quickly threw on his boxers and whitebeater. He walked to his room and went into the closet. He grabbed some clothes and started to put them on. He checked him out in the mirror he bought that he had on his closet door. He had on a black long sleeved shirt that was almost skin tight. He threw on a San Antonio Spurs jersey over it and a black coat. He pulled on a pair of blue jeans and then black and grey Jordans. Even though he was one of the shortest people in the 12th grade, standing at 5'5.

He admired his face in the mirror for a second before grabbing his black bookbag, sliding his arms through the straps, he grabbed his key to the house. He walked out and closed the door, locking it behind him.

His mother had already left, having taken her car to work. Malik made his way up the street and to the bus stop. When he arrived, he saw someone who was like a sibling to him.

"Yooo! What's crackin', Fool?"

His friend said as he approached, both their arms going out to dap each other up. His friend's name was Leland Franks. He's 5'11 and lightskin. He was always shaved and had a curly afro. Not to mention his deep brown eyes that always gets the ladies.

"Ain't nuthin' much. What's up wichu, Leland?"

Malik asked his friend, Leland. As he spoke, he noticed Leland's older sister driving over. She stopped and rolled down her window. Her 2019 Chevrolet Impala's radio played "Pressure" by Ari Lennox.

"Awww, Shiiieeeettt!" Leland got a bit lower, walking over to the car.

The smooth beat and Ari Lennox's voice created a soothing sound that eased the worries I had from the dream I had. After a few seconds, the feeling of my body being detached from my neck had left and I smiled.

Leland didn't even answer me. He walked over to his sister's car and greeted her. I followed behind him and spoke, glad to see her.

"Ayyyeee! Ja'Naeh!"

He went to the window and dapped her up. She was a few shades darker than Leland. She had locs, all of them dyed red. Her eyes were a beautiful brown. Her smile revealed her pure white teeth and her dimples. Her body was on POINT. She was curvy in all the right places, shaped like a goddess.

"Maliiik! How you been, hun?"

"Wait-wait-wait! Jay, how you gon' greet him but not me?"

Leland asked her, pretending to be offended after cutting me off.

Malik chuckled as Ja'Neah had jokingly responded to Leland, a big grin on her face.

"Yep, now go lil' boy!"

Malik laughed and pulled back from the car as Leland shot back at her

"That's why I ain't want 'cho love anyways. That's why you look like a cock-a-doodle-who wicha bubble-gum-dumb-dumb chupacabra lookin' ass!"

That was it. Malik leaned back, laughing hard, walking back a bit as the two started to bicker for a good 30 seconds. It only stopped due to the bus rolling up to the street.

Malik walked back and pointed to the bus and dapped Ja'Neah up again and told her:

"I'ght, I'mma see you later, JJ."

She nodded and said her goodbyes to Leland. Malik and Leland quickly ran to the other side of the street as there were no other cars coming by. Malik had made it up into the bus and fist bumped the bus driver.

The bus driver was pretty cool in Malik's eyes. Ever since he first got into high school, the driver had been a role model for him. He always made sure the new kids were always safe and in view. He knew that the bus could be rough at times.
