Margaux is fast asleep in a position that just looks uncomfortable. Her chin is digging into her collarbone, her shoulders turned inward to each other, legs awkwardly spaced out. She is shaken by a figure beside her, and mutterings of words enter her bland dream. They get louder, and louder until -
Bang! A stack of bulky books are dropped onto the table by Margaux, startling her awake. She sits upright immediately, and adjusts to the reality of the world, seeing Kendall, Karter, Sam and Luke around her in the deserted library.
"Finally, you're awake," Karter expresses with a sigh.
"Were the books necessary?" Kendall muses, turning to Sam.
As Sam picks the books up, he nods. "Yes. Yes they were."
Luke goes with Sam to put the books back, saying: "You guys go ahead," as he disappears into one of the aisles of books.Margaux rubs the cramped part of her neck as she stands, grabbing her all-black backpack from the ground. She tosses it over her shoulder, walking alongside Karter and Kendall.
"We have to get down to the auditorium, Jamie says it's important, but he couldn't start without you," Karter speaks, wrapping one of each arm around Kendall and Margaux's shoulders.
"Why?" Margaux inquires, still a little groggy.
"Student Council members are supposed to be there too," Kendall answers, nodding.
"Oh. Is that why Sam's going?" Margaux sounds uninterested, now.
"Yeah. But Luke's coming too. He doesn't want to go to his club or whatever he said," Karter continues.Kendall, Karter and Margaux enter the auditorium through the front, and make their way all the way down the aisles to the front row, where they take their seats in the comfortable, foldable chairs. Sam and Luke enter soon after, sitting in the same row. Margaux and Sam exchange a glance as they realize they're seated beside each other, but turn to the stage in the auditorium. There stands Jamie, a young adult, probably just graduated college. He has dirty-blonde hair that is pulled into a small bun at the back of his head. He wears cargo pants and a nice sweater vest, paired with converse and a loose knitted beanie. He has a little bit of stubble and rocks thin-framed silver glasses.
"Okay! Listen up, kids," Jamie, the theatre teacher begins, clasping his hands in front of his chest. "As you may notice, we have guests! The student council. They are here because we have been tasked to help them with this year's events! Homecoming, Prom, The formal, and others that may come up in the year."
Margaux hears the dances being listed off, and groans near-silently and slumps back into her seat. Only select student council members are assigned to plan events, which is why Margaux has never had to worry about it while being a part of student council. She hates school dances, has never been to one all of high school. She didn't even want to plan the dance because she hates even the idea of it. And also because her friends were super excited and she'd bring their mood down.
"Today we are going to discuss past homecoming themes, and then come up with new themes for this year's, and vote on them tomorrow."
Discussions ensue and Margaux is not part of it. She doesn't chime in or raise her hand to suggest something. Hell, she barely pays attention. She pulls her phone out, an gets a notification from her weather app that it's going to start down pouring rain. Shit. She needed to walk home today because her car needed new tires. She sighs, staring at her phone.
"Margaux? Do you have any suggestions?" Jamie calls from the stage.
Margaux looks up, feeling all eyes on her. On the wheeled whiteboard on the stage, themes were listed: Disney, Woodland, Fantasy. . . "Uh.." Margaux lets out, thinking, "Broadway?"
"I like that one! Very good, Margaux." Broadway is added underneath Fantasy.
Margaux lets out a breath of relief, and looks back to her phone. A frown is on her face, and her eyes are filled with worry. Sam looks over briefly, examining her expression, but he then looks away.
