Lola's POV

My drowsy eyes scan my phone. It's bright light illuminates my dark room. Is it six o'clock already? Of course it is. It's my first day of school and I'm already complaining. Oh, this year will be fun.

So, after about five minutes of persuasion I shuffle my way down stairs. I'm greeted by my erratic mother who's making my favorite breakfast, biscuits and applesauce. Don't knock it till you try it.

"Hey, sleepy head what took you so long?"

"It's only 6:07", I reply grumply.

"Well, go get ready because I'm almost done with breakfast."

When I make my way to the restroom I can hear my mom mumble something under the lines of how she can't believe I'm already a sophomore. Me either.

I wash my face and brush out my hair. I decide to let my dark curly locks down and braid the front two pieces back with a black bow. I jog up stairs quickly and put on the outfit I picked out last night: black Chucks, red flannel, my favorite Beatles t-shirt, and a black skater skirt.

When I reach downstairs my mom already has breakfast laid out on the table. I quickly eat then slurp down my milk.

I grab my backpack and head out the door. My best friend Cailee is already waiting for me in my driveway. We've known each other since we were babies because our moms were best friends since before our age. She's a year older than me so this is the first year we can drive to school together.

"Hey Lola, what's up?", she says excitedly. She's always been the more positive outgoing one.

"Nothing much, except this is the first year I have AP classes", I say sarcastically. "Oh, would you just shutup about that already! You are still going to get perfect grades just like any other year", she says clearly annoyed.

"Well, it's not my fault for worrying about my grades when I need a almost perfect record for Juilliard", I say defensively.

"Yeah, I know. But, that's all you've been talking about this summer!" She argues.

"Okay, okay, let's talk about something else then".

"Good, I was thinking", she begins, "that this year's going to be different. I'm coming up with a plan to get back with Dylan". As she continues, I try to listen. But, I can't. I get lost in my thoughts about school. Man, shes talking more than usual.

She's always saying how she has these big plans, but they never go anywhere. I can really tell she thought this one out because of the crease in her beautifully caramel complected skin. She's always been the pretty one, that boys notice. It's no wonder with her stunning pixie-cut hair that's dark with some highlights, and her athletic body that's tall and defined, but most importantly her personality. She's so bubbly and energetic and...

"So, what cha' think Lola!", interrupting my thoughts,

"Do ya' think it will work!"

"Umm, yeah it sounds perfect."

For an instant I feel guilty about not listening to her but that all goes away the second I realize we are parked in front of the school. Suddenly, all the anxious jitters come back and I think I might pass out. I guess Cailee noticed when she said,

"Don't worry, you'll do fine, you always do", she says reassuringly.

"Thanks Cails, I hope you're right."

I get out of the car and prepare myself for the worst.
