One Night Changed Everything

Part 1

Sana's story:

Sana resides in a village located near Mumbai. Her father works in the fields, and they own a dhaba (a small roadside restaurant) right next to their home. Her mother cooks at the dhaba, and a young man from the neighboring house assists as a waiter. Sana is the only child in her family. After college hours and on weekends, she helps her mother with household chores. Sana has been in a  relationship with Arjun for the past four years.

Her parents love her deeply and have worked diligently to provide her with an education. She is currently in the 12th grade.

Today, the results were going to be announced. Sana woke up early, feeling quite nervous. Her room was small, only able to fit a single-sized bed. She got ready, wearing a salwar suit, looking simple yet beautiful. As she walked around, searching for a book, her anklets made a tinkling sound.

" Sana wait there is still some time have your breakfast" her mom shouted from kitchen 

" No mummy i have to go early will have it later " she spoke while packing her bag

Then she said goodbye to her dad, who wished her all the best while reading the newspaper.

As she arrived at college, she noticed a large crowd gathered around the notice board. Before she could make her way through the crowd, her friend Neha came running towards her, calling out excitedly.

"Sana you have topped again" she said hugging her

" Really? she asked her face got enlightened ,And what about you?"

"Yess and i got 80% lets party today "

"Sure... where is arjun " she asked her eyes searching for him

"He is sad" said neha

"Why is he ok ?what happened? " she asked getting worried

" Relax he scored below 90% nothing else happened " she said

"Ok you wait here ill check on him " she said and ran from there

She went and saw him sitting alone and sat beside him

" Oh hi miss topper " he said in sarcastic tone

" Arjun, what has happened? I also wanted you to be the topper. Unfortunately, it is not my fault. She said this while holding his hand.

"Why do you think I'm not happy for you? Of course I'm happy for you, but I also wanted to fulfill my parents' wish. They wanted me to get a good score," he says sadly.

"Don't worry, we can get good marks in engineering if we study together," she said excitedly.

" Together means? Are you going to study further?" He asked in amusement

" Yes why" she replied

"But why do you need to study further? This is enough. After we graduate, we can get married, and you can take care of our home and your parents. Have you thought about them? They can't afford to pay your fees. It would be a burden on them. You can help your mother at her restaurant for now," he said, sounding annoyed.

"No, I want to study further, Arjun. I need to get a good job to support my parents. They won't be able to work forever, you know."

" Im there to support them sana dont you trust me?"

She was about to argue when he interrupted

"Okay, let's not talk about it anymore. If you want to marry me, you can't continue your studies. So, you decide: me or engineering." He said that and left.

She got so tensed that she sat there still for the whole day. Neha dropped her home after convincing her not to choose Arjun. Sana finally decided what she wanted to do. She chose Arjun over her studies.

After hearing her decision, her parents were not at all pleased, especially since she had excelled in college. They had hoped she would attend a prestigious university.

" If it is a matter of money, please do not worry. I will arrange it. You should go to Mumbai and work hard to achieve your dreams. Don't think about us. It is just a matter of a few years, and we can handle it," her father said, and her mother agreed.

Sana was so in love with Arjun that she was scared of losing him. Even after everyone tried to talk her out of it, she wouldn't change her mind

" No papa i just dont want it please understand ill help mummy

Her dad was very surprised but still it was sana's decision so they  accepted it.

Arjun shifted to Mumbai for higher studies. They were in a long-distance relationship. He would call her every day and they would meet once a month.

One day while he was having lunch

"Hey man, why are you into that village girl? There are so many pretty, hot girls in our college," Arjun's friend asked while eating a burger.

Arjun laughed " These all are good for one night stand if i get married to her then i can have an affair even after marriage that dumb girl will not even know...she thought she could compete with me , after marriage she will get to know who is arjun" he smirked

" Wow smart plan " said his friend

Finally, after he finished studying and got a job, they got married. Both their parents approved. He came from a middle-class family, and they had a simple ceremony at the courthouse.

Next morning after marriage....sana got up at 8am as she was very tired saw her husband holding onto her tightly she blushed remembering last night how they got so close to each other....then went to take shower.

When she came back arjun was already up sitting with a grumpy mood

" Arjun, please go and take a shower. In the meantime, I will prepare breakfast for you.

Arjun stood holding her hand tightly...bangles were pressing on to her wrist she hissed in pain  " Shut up what do you think of yourself are you a princess? my mom is working since early morning and you were sleeping here peacefully? he asked gritting his teeth

"Im sorry ill wakeup early from tomorrow its paining please leave my hand " she said in shivery tone

" This should not happen from next time got it? " his dangerous voice scared her

" Yes im sorry" she lowered her gaze , had tears in her eyes when he released his hold

This had become his daily routine. He used to scold her daily for trivial matters and never gave her money for daily expenses. Everything was handled by his mother, and even his parents did not like her. His mother used to make her work all day. Despite all of this, she tolerated everything, hoping that things would get better.
