A 17 year old girl named Phantom has always dreamed of being a hero. The stories of famous heroes had the young girl fascinated growing up; so much so to the point she would even attempt helping people out, even if it was something small. Unfortunately, the girl suffered from an alcoholic and abusive father. Negativity was left in her life as more people continuously neglected her. To make matters worse, Phantom did not have any friends whom she could vent to. She grew up not knowing the love of a father, only knowing a little love from her mother whenever she was around. Sadly, she was alone most of her life. Phantom had grown used to this, yet could not help feeling saddened whenever coming across a complete family.
Phantom was in her third period of class when her teacher clapped her hands together, successfully gaining the students' attention. As their gaze traveled among the students, the teacher started with their announcement. "Tomorrow at 9:35 P.M., a new animatronic known as Funtime Lolbit - or for short, Lolbit - will be transported here to protect and perform here at the dorms." The teacher started, "Recently, we have started discovering people with extraordinary abilities due to the particle accelerator explosion."
At the mention of the particle accelerator, a look of disgust was visible on the teacher's face. "Since last year, we have had many break-ins because of those meta-humans. But with the protection of Lolbit, we can ensure safety. We can ensure safety with you all. I'll say this now: Lolbit is sentimental. So, they will be allowed to roam and talk to you students." The teacher said as a student raised their hand. The teacher, then, called on the student. "Yes, Ms. West?"
"Is it possible for Lolbit to experience emotions like us humans?" West asked. "That is a very good question, Ms. West. Yes, Lolbit is capable of having emotions and a thought process just like us." The teacher said, answering her question. For Phantom, this was just another disinteresting topic. So, she ignored the questions being asked and the answers the teacher was providing as she simply continued to work on her assignments.
"Ms. Kiroshima, are you paying attention to the announcement?" The teacher called. "Yup," Phantom simply said, not paying attention. "Alright, then tell me what we have just talked about." The teacher said, gazing at the young girl. "Mhm," she said, still not paying any attention. The teacher sighed in frustration, "Ms. Kiroshima, please pay attention. This is important to know." With a frustrated sigh, Phantom looked up at the teacher.
"What is so special about this stupid animatronic? It is just a metal suit controlled by a human!" She said angrily. The teacher looked surprised for some seconds, but regained her composure. Taking a deep inhale and exhaling slowly, the teacher gave the girl a soft, gentle smile. "I understand that you do not trust a lot of people because of your past, but, please, all I'm asking is for you to give this animatronic a chance."
Phantom looked down for a moment, then looked back up at the teacher. "I... I'll think about it.." She said at last. "Thank you, Ms. Kiroshima," the teacher said with a soft tone. Just then the bell rang, signaling the fourth period. The students walked out in a hurry, but as for Phantom she waited for a moment. Collecting her stuff and packing them up, the girl slingged her backpack over her shoulder. She walked out of the classroom and headed over to her locker.
As she opened the locker door, the locker was plain compared to the other lockers. It held a mirror in the back to alert her of any trouble. The mirror reflected herself; it reflected her tired eyes, old scars, and a blank stare her eyes held. After a minute of staring, she regained her bearings and collected the books she needed. Closing the locker door behind her, she headed to the next classes. After getting out of school, Phantom decided she would go out on a walk through the forest for a bit.
Walking through the forest trail, she found herself enjoying the sights she saw. It had been a good two hours of walking when she finally decided to check her phone, seeing it was now 7:39 P.M. As she decided to head back, Phantom gazed up at the night sky as a soft breeze greeted her. With a soft sigh, she looked back in front of her, remaining alert until she reached the safety of her dorm. As she got back, Phantom went to the kitchen of her dorm room. She prepared herself dinner, ate, and finished her day with her usual night routine. Finally laying down on her bed, Phantom gazed over at the window for a moment. Eyes feeling heavy, sleep decided to take over the girl.
