Crystal Wolves

Chapter 1

       Watching the clock tick away second by second, the ticking getting louder gradually as I travel further from reality.  

   My head resting heavily on my hand. 

  "HEY BESTIE!" Nikki shouted which yanked me from my day dreaming, my head slipped out of my hand and I hit the counter below me. 

   "Nikki! Don't you know how to let someone know you here?" I said irritated rubbing the side of my head as it was throbbing. she laughed and I rolled my eyes.

  "So have you met any cute boys today?" she said batting her eyes and leaning on the counter. 

  "No I haven't and you know I'm not looking regardless" I said while picking up the returned items to return them back to their designated isles, which of course she followed me. 

  "Come on Luna, you're killing me here. I want nieces and nephews!" If I had been drinking something I would've spat it out but instead I choked on my spit. 

  "You what?!" I managed to cough up, she giggled again. 

  Just then a green long haired man walked in the door looking like a model,  he had a white t-shirt on with a couple smudges of black on his chest, his jeans were a faded grey, with some work boots. 

 "Now that's a hottie" Nikki said flipping her gorgeous blue shoulder length hair, she strutted over to the man and looked like she was flirting, he smiled a smile that could stop time and looked over at me. 

  I could feel my face getting hot and I went back to work acting as if I had seen nothing. I could hear heavy foot steps coming my way. Act cool Luna.

 "Heyya miss" This sweet southern voice came from beside me, I turn to see it's green hair. 

 "Hello, can I help you?" I say and have to look up to look into his eyes which were a deep black, I was to his chest in height, god he smelt so good.  He grinned again and looked down at me.

 "you could give me your number" I was flabbergasted, my number? 

 "the blue haired girl said you thought I was cute and your not bad yourself" he said sweetly. i could feel my face turning red, no Luna! you're not going to fall for his charm. You just said your not looking for crying out loud!

  "Uhhh sure" I said shyly and wrote my number on paper and handed it to him. He looked over it for a second and grinned once more then shoved it in his pocket.

 "I'm Emerald by the way" he said with a wink and walked away, Emerald? that was a unique name. wait I didn't give him mine, but I was to late he had already walked out the door. 

  I went back to putting the things on the shelves and getting people out the door with their groceries, time flew by and my shift was finally over.  I took my apron off as I walked outside and tossed it into my truck and opened the door. 

  I hop in and lay my head on the steering wheel exhausted like every other day, the sun was just starting to fade behind the horizon. I sigh and drive off heading home, I blast some music and sing along up until I reach my driveway and put my truck in park.  

   I reach my door and open it to be met by my husky Sheena she jumped on me and licked my face, I laughed and she jumped down running to the kitchen waiting for her evening meal. 

  Living alone had its perks but it also was so lonely.

 I leaned against the counter and watched Sheena eat wagging her tail.

 This was my life.
