Picking up my mug, I sighed and tried to ignore my headache.

Even with the light coming from my laptop, I could hardly see my own hands. This was necessary, considering the time. Half past ten.

Wait, what?

I remembered that the clocks battery was thrown away long ago because of its annoying sound that echoed through the empty room. And perhaps because I didn't know how to turn that thing off.

It was actually one A.M.

It has to finish soon, I whinged, damn this project.

Outline edited. Coloured. Highlighted. Added a bit more shadows, some scars, and more slime. Zoomed on the face. That needs a tiny bit more disgusting features like... Maybe a protruded eye???

If I weren't the one making these special effects, I wouldn't have slept for days after watching it. Haha. Pretty brave, right?

Well, now you know why I almost jumped up when I heard rapid footsteps.

No one would be up this late.

I turned slowly to the door and waited for a few seconds. The only sound was my own heartbeat.

I listened carefully. Nothing. Silence.

Back to work, I thought, it was probably that strange man upstairs examining something again.

Before I could get back, those footsteps came back. This time they were louder with thumps. And the sound of a heavy box or baggage falling.

My heart was pounding in my chest.

Could this be a burglary? A kidnapping? An armed robbery?

I held my breathe.

They were coming this way.

Suddenly the door clicked open and a black shape with a white face and a screaming-shaped mouth came in.

I didn't think.

I just closed my eyes and started screaming with a high-pitched voice.

Even the black figure got frightened that it jerked backwards.

Then there was silence for a second.

That's when another figure hurried down the stairs, panting. It had something like a walkimg-stick in its hands, pointing it at me.

Its Mrs. Hudson! She came to help!

She turned to the black figure. She dropped her broom stick the second she saw it -turned out it was actually a broom stick judging by its end- and this time, it was her turn to scream.

Before anyone could do anything, a mans voice was heard in the middle of this chaos.

"I'm armed! Put your hands up and drop your weapons."

It was a tall man. A tall man with a gun pointing at us.

This situation is getting more and more scary.

Before I could try to find an answer to my questions -how did they come in? And so on- he turned on the light.

It took a while until my eyes adjusted to the light.

And then I felt relieved.

The man on the stairs was Mr. Holmes. With a gun. With a real gun.

Haha, what a relieve. He does have a gun.

The other one was Mrs. Hudson. Just as I thought.

And the third?

It started to remove its MASK.

Of course it was a mask! I snapped at myself. I'm an idiot.

It got the mask off.

And got me staring in shock.

"WHAT are you doing here?" I retorted.

Guess who it was.

Arina.

My old friend.

Scaring me to death.

Mr. Holmes scratched his head with the gun. "What on earth is happening? Who is she?"

I sighed. "nothing. It was just a mistake. You can all go now."

"idiots." Mr. Holmes murmured, and shut the door.

Mrs.Hudson was waiting for explanation.

So I started...
