Chapter 10 - Miracle

I am almost hesitant to wake Zira up she seems so at peace and calm but I have to do it we have to go back to our home.
"Hey sleepyhead wake up we have to go"
a mumbled up "5 minutes" is all I get in reply
"Come on Zira we have to move do you want to stay here for another day"
"Okay okay I'm waking up MOM I'm up" she even get's up like a toddler wow
I turn around to get my bag packed up all the books and the water bottle and the lamp I turn around to see Zira still slumping on the wall going in and out of conscious.

I walk slowly up to her and trying not to make single sound, I crouch down and I go close to her and still surprised she hasn't waked up I SCREAM AS LOUD AS I CAN in the scariest way I could.

She started screaming in reply to mine and then pushing me away "YOU ASSHOLE YOU ALMOST GAVE ME HEARTATTACK" she yells getting up and I couldn't stop laughing and Zira started laughing as well
"God Reece let's go" she says after finish laughing
"oh god okay okay let's go" I'm breathless already
Zira grabbed her bat and I grabbed my hatchet opening the hatch to go down we both look from both the sides making sure nothing is waiting for us in the hallway
"Okay let's go it's all clear" She jumps down and I hand her bat and drop our bags down and I jump down as well grabbing my hatchet and putting both of our bags we start to go downstairs ready and armed to kill anything that comes towards us going downstairs in this creaky house is the scariest thing ever it's like being in a ghost movie

Making down to the ground floor we make a quick check around the house so if anything is waiting for us outside this place would still be safe
"Bathroom check"
"Bedroom check"
and so many more checks and once we're done we walk up to the door to see the light again walking close to the main door and having my hand on the door knob, I turn to see if Zira is behind me and the hallway behind me is empty with no sign of Zira I get my hatchet out and before I start panicking I take a deep breath to calm myself trying not to start freaking out
"Zira!! Where are you?!!" I am taking small steps towards the inside of the house
"SORRY I'M IN HERE!!!" I almost fall to my knees what is she doing, leaving me like that.

I walk to where the voice came from when I reached the kitchen Zira is sitting on the counter with what seems to be a melted chocolate bar
"Hello" Zira is grinning ear from ear and just like that all the anger I had for her disappeared like that I mean she loves chocolate probably more than she likes me so I understand that she forgot about me
"well I guess you found a treat for yourself, how good is this one" I can't help but smile at her childish happiness
"Yeah!! It's been expired for only like 2 years isn't that crazy?" well that's awesome chocolates don't really have a expiry date inside the package it's just the best before date after that the taste might be different but it would be good but if it does taste bad it's best to spit it out

she hands me the melted bar to take some licking her fingers I scoop from the side and taste some and it wasn't that bad and after some more finger dips she wrapped the opening of the bar and shoved the chocolate inside a small jar and got up licking her fingers once more. Well that wasn't bad that we found some chocolate could also help her feel better

We once again started walking towards the door we both were ready so we opened the door with our weapons ready to swing and nothing was out there it was safe, most of the time nothing is really there but it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

Walking down the street I got my note book to cross this book off the list of houses we hadn't checked and the number was down to 17 it's been almost 3 years since we came to this town checking houses when we didn't have any resources but after growing our own food and occasionally eating rabbits it hasn't been that bad and we didn't have to search for food so we just searched for other resources like bottles and knives and weapons all of that and we were able to survive pretty good but we have to move on now we have to do something, we have to find a colony or a group of survivors and we have to do that fast if there is a Reaper out there we can't be here for too long and if there's one Reaper now soon more would come here and we won't even have a chance of surviving

But what could we do we don't know where there is a survival colony is right now and even if there was it would be like at least miles away from here and walking that far is as risky as staying here.

I wonder how the outside world is I mean it's been 3 years since we were outside of this town and it's forest, one could only imagine what New York is looking like now.

"Zira what are we going to do?"

She looks at me with a confused look

"I mean like there is a Reaper out here we can't stay here any longer we have to move, you remember that we agreed to go if there was a single sign of one of the high tier Walkers, right?" finished that all in one breath, why am I nervous talking to her about this?

She looks down for a moment, I don't if she's feeling bad again or is she thinking about it

"What are you thinking?"

"I mean what do we do? Where do we go? We don't know if there's another town nearby, we don't if it would be safe there, we don't know how we would even get their by foot, what are we supposed to do?"

"Well we can't just stay here, you know there'll be more of them coming"

"I know but what do you suggest we do?"

"What if we went to a colony?"

Zira looks at me like it was the dumbest thing I have said and it probably was

"You're seriously not considering moving into a colony, Reece"

"Well....... I mean we can't continue to stay alone like we used to we're both the company we both have and that's not good what if one of us dies?" I visibly regret saying that cause now Zira is gonna lose it

"One of us is not dying Reece, if we're careful enough we both won't die" she is holding it back I can see it the way her mouth is in a tight line, but I decide to push it anyway

"Well still for how long? We'd be dying of old age if we survive that long, what then?"

Zira chuckles at that, well at least she's not entirely serious

"I'm serious Zira, we can't keep doing this we have to go somewhere"

Zira stops and turns towards me facing me completely
"Okay even if we do decide to go somewhere like a colony, this is a hypothetical question but, HOW do we know where a colony is? How are we gonna find one and make it to it alive?"

"Well I was thinking about that and....."

"And?" Zira has a smug smile, she thinks she's won this argument but I kinda feel like she also wants me to find an answer for her question"

And suddenly a light bulb went off

"THE RADIO!"

"What radio?"

"The one we found in that creepy house that house, where I also found this pocket watch" I take my pocket watch and show it to her like it's going to make me win this argument but she turns and starts to walk

"That radio won't work without electricity, Reece, what are you gonna do about that?"

"Well.....I don't know but let's say I make it work and we find a colony announcing where it is located-"

"Which is also highlyunlikely" Zira cuts me off but I continue anyway

"we could go to that location and check it out"

"Well still we have to find a way to get there without dying, which means wecan't travel by foot" now she just wants to make me lose this argument shedoesn't have an interest to leave this place

"well yes but – "

"unless you find a car we're not gonna be able to get away from this place"

"oh god, where can we find one like, HOW?? There aren't any in this town andeven if there was it won't be able to work"

"exactly, unless we miraculously find a car that works we can't leave and thatis also if we make the radio work AND we find a colony"

And that ends my attempt to get out of this place but I still haven't lost mydesire or my motivation

all I need to do is find a car that works and use it's battery to make theradio work and then find the colony and use the car to get out of here

but it's gonna take a miracle to get a working car.
