He splashed cold water on his face. The soothing drops chased down his sharp cheekbones and throat. Inconvenient drops on the collar spread like a spherical web, drenching the nape of his shirt. He wiped his face with a tissue, leaving the earlobes and a tiny fraction of skin on his forehead still damp. The tissue became wet; he crumpled it and threw it in the bin. Blowing into the mirror, a gust of sigh, his hazel green eyes saw the mist accumulating on the reflective surface. He wiped a portion with his hand so he could see the reflection of his face. He looked terrific.
His ears suddenly became alert to the footsteps that could be heard approaching the washroom. A push, a screech of the lower portion of the door scraping the floor and an echoing laughter followed.
"Oh," the person came to a halt, "you okay?" He took in the man's expression.
"Yeah, everything is cool," he shrugged nonchalantly and replied.
"Seriously though, you want to talk about it?"
"About what?" He feigned surprise. "Like I said, I'm alright."
The curly haired guy stared at the man for a minute and then replied, "I won't push it but it seems like you're trying to convince yourself. Whatever."
He sauntered towards one of the washroom cabins, leaving him alone in front of the mirror. He stared at the reflection the mirror portrayed once again. The pallor had been replaced by a red tint, the hazel green eyes were slightly widened. He looked agitated. Those words replayed in his mind again,
"I hope you become so filled with happiness that it heals every part of you."
"You can't protect someone from their pain."
"The deeper we get into it, the messier it'll get. The messier it gets, more difficult it'll get to survive the pain."
"Is it her?" The nosy man was out of the cabin now washing his hands in the sink. "The reason you wanted to stay low-key before coming here."
Abuzar ducked his head, heaving a sigh. Of course he'd notice. Nothing went unnoticed from the prying eyes of this attentive man who had clinged onto him for the past four years.
"I saw the way you looked at her." He continued with a hint of amusement in his voice. Abuzar straightened up, pulling the folded sleeves of his shirt down.
"Even a blind person would tell the tension radiating off of you-" His teasing was cut short when Abuzar jerked his head in his direction. A quiet warning.
The silence was broken by the sound of the phone ringing from his coat's pocket, which was hanging by the door.
"We're running late for the meeting." He said grabbing the coat and headed out. The man followed behind like a tail.
"Oh, there she is." The amused man walking next to him pointed down the window they were passing by and he involuntarily paused.
He raised his chin and leveled his cold hazel green eyes at the plague of his mind. The sunlight was glinting in her glossy hair waves, still as thick and long as before. He could see a rosy hue in her cheeks, and her plump lips slightly parted.
The university goddess was still as stunning. His hand fisted and jaw clenched. Standing near the garden by the entrance, she was chatting with a lady, oblivious to his stare. Her face broke into a sweet grin as she waved her hand in the lady's direction before entering the building and disappearing from his sight.
She had probably received his anonymously sent gift in the morning, but now she was in for a bigger surprise.
"Don't you feel guilty? I know I would." The curly-haired man asked knowing about the thunderbolt which was coming for the woman in the meeting planned.
"I hate her," he replied simply, "doesn't make it tough to exploit people when you hate them."
