Me and Tony had settled back into the house after that party. I cannot lie, that was so much more fun that I expected it to be. I appreciate the fact that his parents decided to take AJ so that we would be able to enjoy our entire day and night. Most parents wouldn't even have done it. But it worked out. We were for sure buzzing at this moment. I was super tired, but something wouldn't allow me to drift off for real.
"Tony..."
"Yes baby." he said to me.
"I was checking to see if you were still awake." I said to him and he turned his body in my direction.
"I thought you had fallen asleep already." he said.
"No, for some reason, I'm still wide awake right now. I don't know if I'm still running off of excitement from the night." He laughed for a moment.
"Could be. You were definitely in rare form this here night Ms. Valedictorian." I also had to laugh at that too.
"I was supposed to be though. As rough as this road has been, this was definitely meant to be a night of unadulterated fun. Did that!" I said happily.
"I feel like we're supposed to have that more than once though LaLa. Like I feel like you should find joy in each and every day. I know we're new parents and all of that, but our lives didn't stop when we had him. This is just the beginning for real. The same spark that I saw in your eyes tonight is the same spark I feel you should always carry with you. Life is too short Love, you're supposed to enjoy it while you can. So let your hair down more often. Break out of that shell and continue to be unapologetically yourself. Now is not the time to tiptoe through life. Let these mfs feel every single step." he said to me. I didn't expect him to say even a fraction of what he just did, but I needed to hear that for real. It put some things into perspective for real. "I get that. But at the same time, it's like I feel like it's necessary to devote so much time to AJ. It's like he'll see less of us once the semester begins and it's not right to shortchange him. Well not for selfish reasons." I said to him. "It's not shortchanging him. A child needs a healthy, happy environment to thrive in. If you're always work, work, work, serious, serious, serious you'll burn out quickly. A child can sense things aren't what they should be. Your mental status is still very much important. You have to create balance to work, parenting, and yourself. It can absolutely be done. I know you, you'll figure it out as you do everything else." I looked into his eyes as he said that.
"Well I know who my biggest supporter is." I said to him.
"You already know Babe." he said as he moved inward and placed his head on my chest and I wrapped my arms around his neck. Before I knew it, I was waking up. I looked over at the clock and it was 2:53pm. As soon as I went to sit up, Tony woke up as well.
"Damn, it's almost 3?" he said sounding as surprised as I did when I saw the clock.
"Yeah it is." I said as I got up and headed straight for the bathroom. My bladder was about ready to burst for real. I released and then ran the water in the shower. Tony walked in as I was stripping down to get in the shower. He decided to join me as we got in the shower. Man that hot water was just what I needed for real. I started to feel a little more alive after showering and we both was sitting there in the room for a minute before getting dressed. Slowly but surely we got it together.
"Man...I need some food in my life." Tony said and I definitely agree.
"Me too. It's necessary." I said as we both laughed and went downstairs. To our surprise, no one was home. "This seems odd." I said to him. "Naw she texted me and said they would be out, but she cooked already." he said to me as he lifted the lids off the food and I got excited. His mom's pernil and arroz con guandules was fire. Plus it was some tostones too. I think she loves me. He made both plates as we sat down at the breakfast nook and started to eat our meal. "You don't feel sick, do you?" he asked me and I shook my head. "Okay cool, I was just making sure." he said.
"Aww you were gonna take care of me?" I said to him and he laughed.
"Of course. Plus I think I've only witnessed you drinking wine before so I wasn't sure if the liquor was different."
"The wine is definitely worse. It'll give you a headache with the quickness, but the liquor isn't so bad. Plus I drank water before and after drinking to prevent the impeding hangover." I said.
"Look at you, knowing how to handle everything. That's why I trust you with everything." he said to me.
"Everything?" I said as I raised a brow at him and he smiled.
"I said what I said Nena." he replied.
"Smart ass." I said to him as we both laughed before we finished up our food. I picked up our plates and went to wash the dishes as we heard the door open and Jose walked in. "Good afternoon to you both. How was last night?" he asked as he took a seat across from Tony.
"It was fun. You should've came out for real." Tony said to him.
"Too much temptation to do worldly things. I know I probably could've abstained from it, but I attempt to not put myself in compromising situations."
"Respect. However we could debate you'll never know how strong you stand against temptation, unless you put yourself and your willpower into those situations. Otherwise you're just staying away, but are you fighting it?" I said.
"That's an interesting take. I see what you mean. I like the concept and all of that, but I knew there would be alcohol, drugs, and girls. But you're right, I'd never know without actually resisting temptation itself." he said.
