This month in drama class, we have been assigned the tragedy of Romeo & Juliet. Not only do we have to read it, but we have to perform it too. Plus, my name is already Juliet because my mom was obsessed with Shakespeare. So, I am most likely going to play Romeo's love.

"Julie, He doesn't even know you barely, you won't play her", Alex said.

Alex is my best friend. She is the literature geek and I'm the awkward, to-myself, nerd. We're the perfect match.

"I'm still holding my breath", I say, walking into the classroom.

The desks were in a circle as in we were the groundlings at one of Shakespeare's plays. The center of the circle was supposed to be the stage. Alex and I sat by the windows.

"Oh Romeo, oh Romeo, where for art thou Romeo?", Mr. Patton, our drama teacher, walked in the classroom holding the finished scripts for "Romeo & Juliet". He wore his usual outfit: a berét, scarf, sweater, dress pants, and dress shoes.

Alex nudged my arm and smiled. I looked to the door and He entered, Ryan Armstrong. I have had a crush on him since the seventh grade.

"There's your Romeo", Alex joked. I punched her arm and giggled.

"Alright class, as you know, we will be portraying William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet-the most dangerous love story ever told", Mr. Patton said.

The class sighed.

"Now, since nobody wants to audition, I will be choosing the roles", He began.

Alex looked at me with a smirk. I rolled my eyes.

"Now, Romeo. The cocky romancer", He looked around the room,"Ryan, you will portray Romeo". Ryan smiled.

A part of me wanted to volunteer then another part of me wanted to die inside.

"Now, Juliet".

My heart stopped and I sunk in my chair,"Please, please, please".

His eyes stopped on me,"Juliet!".

I froze.

"It would only make sense for you to play Juliet".

Yes. Thank you Mr. Patton for ruining my favorite class.

Alex started laughing and my cheeks turned red. Ryan smiled and winked at me. I groaned and hid my face.

Thankfully, we didn't make it to scene five(where Romeo and Juliet meet). So, I got to enjoy the show without embarrassing myself.

"Tomorrow Julie", Alex said.

"Great. Another reason to despise the thought of coming to school".

"But now you have an excuse to kiss him", She said.

"No! I will not kiss him!"

"Why? I thought you liked him?"

"I do. I just want my first kiss to be real. Not scripted and fake."

The bell rang and the class dismissed. Alex and I were the last to leave, as always. We walked to Alex's locker then she went on to her class. I walked to my locker alone and unlocked it. I put my books up and grabbed my math. I closed my locker. "Ryan!", I said,"What are you doing?"

"Juliet, right?", He asked. I nodded.

He smiled.

"I am excited about the play".

"What?".

"I love Shakespeare", He said.

"What?"
