Getting to Know Each Other, I Guess

As the school day dragged on, Jeff was looking forward to lunchtime.
Jeff spent a lot of time on the rooftop. He typically ate his lunch on the rooftop. He skipped class and went to the rooftop. Only he had the key to the rooftop, other than the janitorial staff, since Jeff was so rich he could have anything he wanted. But today, he could see the silhouette of someone on the rooftop. He thought it might have been the janitor, but the janitors had never usually cleaned at this time, so he decided to investigate further.
As he opened the door to the rooftop, what he saw left him in disbelief.

Before his mind could catch up to his eyes, without thought, Jeff shouted out:
"Hey! Don't do it! It's not worth it!"
"Hm?" Duo replied.
"You... what were you just about to do?!"
"Oh. I was trying to fly, obviously. Trying to figure out how to teach people languages in other worlds."
"I don't know what that's supposed to mean, but it's obvious that's not what you're doing. Come on, there's tons of school counselors and stuff that could help you, just get down from there already! You're interrupting my lunch. And I'm quite ravenous, so if you would please-"
"Shut up."
Jeff sunk further into his disbelief. "Who are you speaking to that way?!"
"You, obviously. You think you're so high and mighty, dontcha? You think you're too good to do your schoolwork, or learn new things. You'd rather be in your own rich boy little world, huh?" Duo said with vacant eyes.
"Huh?! What- how would you know that? I've never seen you in my life."
"As I said, I've been watching you for some time. I took interest in you, since you're not like the others. I mean that in a bad way. I mean, you're just alllllwayyyyssssss in your own little world! Have you stopped to think of the suffering of those around you for one in your life? So that's why I want to help you. With the power of learning a new language, you learn to respect others. I believe you lack respect." Duo said, holding out a hand to Jeff.
"Huh?! Wha- Urgh!"
What upset Jeff the most was that he was right. Looking back on his ways, Jeff felt shame. A bitter shame, as he had subconsciously caused the suffering of countless people. Perhaps he should try to learn to be more empathetic towards others. But he knew better then to trust Duo. Duo was dangerous. He has literally killed people before, so why should Jeff trust him? But in a moment of absent-mindedness once again, he said:
"Okay."
"Very well then. Why don't we start right now, while eating lunch?"

"What does 死 mean?" Duo said, stealing a cracker from Jeff's lunch.
"Aha! I know that one, it's death!" Jeff replied, in turn stealing a grape from Duo's lunch.
"Aww, you're so good at this!" Duo said, giving Jeff a light pat on the shoulder
Everything was well. They'd been hanging out together ever since that day. It had been what, three weeks? Jeff realized that he should stop being so self centered and standoffish, and he stepped down from his high horse and freed all of his slav- I mean- started engaging with his schoolwork. Jeff was getting all A's, but not all on his own. He couldn't had done it without the help of Duo. Jeff realized that all of the rumors about Duo were wrong, and he even considered Duo his friend. Duo was his first ever real friend. Since Jeff was so self centered, he always kept to himself, never engaging a friendship with anyone. But, thay was all in the past.
"Jeff Bezos, come to the main office please!" the intercom suddenly said.
"Oh? Did you start skippin' class again? You naughty boy!" Duo teased.
"No, haha. But I'm not sure what it could be. I guess I'll get going then, see you tomorrow, Duo." Jeff said. It was sad to leave Duo so early, as his days were only made interesting due to Duo's presence.
As Jeff made his way to the office, he felt apprehensive. The last time he got called to the office, it ended in him losing a lot of money. It was due to the fact that his family didn't trust he was actually going to class. So what if they were right, Jeff still didn't like being punished.
Jeff couldn't believe his eyes as he saw his father standing there.
"Jeff, we are going to have a serious conversation when we get home." His father coldly said, dragging Jeff out of the office.
"Huh? What's this about?!" Jeff exclaimed.
"Have a good day, boys!", the office lady said. Could she not read the room?
"I hear you've been associating with Duo Lingou. Do you know what his kinds of people do?" Jeff's father said, not even looking him in the eye as he opened the car door.
"Dad, you must understand he's not a bad person! I don't have any idea what you mean." Jeff said, feeling betrayed.
"You musn't talk to me that way, young man. Starting from today, I better not hear anything about you and Duo together. I have sixteen spies within the school, and if one of them catches you with him, you're getting put up for adoption. Do I make myself clear?" Jeff's father said.
"No! You! You can't say that! What reason do you even have for disliking Duo?! It's unfair! It's all so unfai-"
SMACK!
Blood poured out of Jeff's mouth.
"You're walking home now, young man. I expect you back at home in two hours." His dad said, driving away shortly after.
This was the beginning of the end for Jeff's happy life.
