Could this wild being, have been left alone
to learn the life of an Imperfect Wolf
She was neither human or animal
She howls a lonely hollow cry out loud
Though no one understand her human sound
She was neither human or animal
The wolves of her pack try to speak but fail
she knows no language she speaks only silence
She was neither human or animal
Very little about her is human
except that she is not an animal
She was neither human or animal
Could this excited, dangerous child-wolf
be civilised by church or by convent
She was neither human or animal
She seems wild, impatient of restraint
Human manners make her cower away
She was neither human or animal
Sharp teeth, red lips, tall ears, red hood, a snout
She is taught manners, kindness, human thought
She was neither human or animal
Torn away were thoughts of loyalty and,
replaced with individuality.
She was neither human or animal
The nuns had discovered to treat her well
and with kindness she is not as detached
She was neither human or animal
The red did flow, just like her coloured cloak
a hooded cloak, to conceal in the night
She was neither human or animal
Taken to a dark, old, dreary castle
She met someone just as detached as her
She was neither human or animal
She settled down with a loud, dog-like sigh
It was neither relief or tolerance
She was neither human or animal
The Duke was old as the architecture
yet wild,angry and rapacious
Was he human or animal?
Full of pain, impossible to be vain
When he ceased to exist in the mirror
Was he human or animal?
Does he leave paw-prints when he runs and howls
Creeping round the graves at night, who was he?
Was he more than human or animal?
Could this duke be a ghoul, a wolf, alive?
Stealing bodies, robbing graves to survive
He was not human or animal
Lonely despite company she cried
Curled by the fire refusing a bed
She was neither human or animal
She performs small tasks taught to her by nuns
She sweeps the litter that covers his room
Was she human or animal?
The lapse of time, stuck in that exiled place
She grew amongst things she could not perceive
Was she human or animal?
She found a friend in her own reflection
A mirror she was yet to learn about
Did she see human or animal?
The mirror told her what no one else could
Showing her picture, the absolute truth
Did she see human or animal?
She marvelled, shocked, at her humanity
She gazed, amazed, at her reflected self
Was she human or animal?
It held no secrets and told her no lies
How, now, would she regard her new life
Would she choose human or animal?
Yet she adapted and learnt,
the new otherworldly influence faced
brought out the teens humanity, her fears.
She became more human than animal
She grew into a girls hormone cycle
stealing clothes to pad herself from the blood
She was becoming more human than animal
It occurred just like the moon, once a month
predicting the time she became prepared
She was now more human than animal
Oppressed by her inhumane ways she cried.
She tried to hide what she was becoming
She was a woman. No longer a wolf
She was a young red girl with a red hood.
Her life's tale full of sorrow and fight
She grew and changed no longer just at night
An imperfect wolf.
