I'm deaf, iv'e been since i was 20, I got in a big accident and lost my hearing,  and meeting new people is something i'd rather avoid. My town is small, everyone know everyone and they all have learned sign language for me. Most of them are old now and took classes when I was in my coma, my mom got so overwhelmed and grateful.

I was at the local store, buying some vegetables for my famous soup. In the summer we host a big festival for tourists and me and my mom always sell my soup, everyone loves it. I took a pepper and smiled at it, perfect. Someone bumped into me and I dropped it, my smile disappeared and I instantly dropped down to take it. My head hit something, sharp pain hit me. I looked up and saw a guy right in front of me, mouthing 'sorry'. I smiled again and shook my head, signing with my hands at my ears explaining that i can't hear him.
He looked embarrassed and gave me the pepper.

He was handsome, brown eyes, brown hair, classy and modern style. We separated to continue our own shopping. In the line to the cashier we had two people in between us, Martha and Tyler, both amazing people. They looked at me and my groceries and giggled, signing 'making your famous soup for the festival?' I nodded and signed 'yes', they moved aside and Martha signed 'please, you have less items than us' I thanked them and started loading up everything. The guy from before was done and started picking things into bags, he looked up when me and the cashier had our daily sign conversation.

While I was walking back home a fancy orange Audi drove by in a horrible speed. I swore for myself and then saw a glimpse of the guy from before again. He drove off into the woods by the bank. If you follow that road you'll end up in a big field, with a big abandon house in the middle, surrounded by the forest. Maybe someone finally bought it. It was a great place to play at when I was younger, me and my friend Cassie always used to play there.

Later that night all the town's people had gathered in the park, putting up stands with food and drinks, games and lottery. Me and my mom where working on our stand, red and yellow, like always. I had tree big potts of my delicious soup behind us. Decorating the stand with stickers and paper, it looked better than ever. The line that formed was long and big, with both locals and tourist in it. We only had one more costumer and I prepared the bowl, when I looked up it was the guy from before. He mouthed 'Hi how are you?' so quick that I couldn't read his lips, I looked at my mom, she signed to me and i looked back at him, smiling, he looked embarrassed again, then he did something that shocked me, he signed 'Sorry'. My smile got eve bigger and I nodded approvingly to him and handed him he bowl. He looked at my mom and said 'Can you tell her my name is Tony?' she signed for me, 'My name is y/n' she said to him after I signed. He gave me a card with his number on and made a hand gesture like 'text me', i nodded and he left with his bowl. My mom wiggled her eyebrows, 'Stop!', smiled and pinched my cheeks, 'my big girl' she mouthed.

The festival was going on for almost a week, so when I got back to my apartment I could still see all the beautiful lights in my window. I fidgeted with the card Tony had given me.  Should I text him? I don't like meeting new people, bothering them with my disability. I put the card down and went to the fridge, on it i had this big poster 'Take the risks or you'll miss opportunities' i rolled my eyes and picked up the card again, put him in my contacts and wrote, 'Hey, deaf girl here' it's obviously a joke, would he find it funny? i erased it and wrote again 'Hey, it's the girl from the festival' and pressed send. Why would I do this to myself and him, he can't understand me.

The dotts appeared in seconds, 'Hey you! that soup was delish' I caught myself smiling again and stopped immediately, wrote 'Thank you!' as an answer. 'Do you want to meet up someday this summer?' I put my phone down, not being able to answer to that, i should just ignore him and ghost until summer is over and he hopefully goes back to where ever he came from. Sparing us both the trouble. My phone buzzed and blinked, i've revised another message, not looking at it and heading straight for bed.
