It was the night before the first day of the spring semester and Lola swore to every god on this mortal and immortal plane of existence that if Scott didn't shut the fuck up, she was going to commit murder.

A dull thud sounded outside and her eyes rolled so hard that it wasn't entirely impossible for them to have fallen out her skull. Great. Dunce number two has joined the party. She snatched her earbuds and shoved them in, attempting to drown out everything to whatever song happened to play.

The tactic worked for a beautiful five minutes before a pounding at her door woke her from her lulled trance. She gritted her teeth before flinging herself out of bed. "What?" Lola snapped as she swung the door open to reveal Stiles grinning at her, completely unaffected by both her rage and the ridiculous time of night.

"Do you want to find a body with us–"

"No. Fuck off."

She slammed the door shut and headed back to bed. At least Scott's music had finally stopped.

That night hadn't been anything special to her, but clearly it held some importance with how odd Scott had started to act after. Maybe they really did find the body, she pondered to herself. It would certainly explain his jumpy nature and worsening temper. Or maybe Stiles finally convinced him to have sex so they could both stop whining about being virgins.

The bigger surprise, however, was happening to overhear Scott asking their mom for permission to go to a party. Full offense to her brother, but he was a bit of a loser despite being on the lacrosse team. No one could truly blame her for finding it astonishing that his social life was actually improving.

And as a younger sibling, it was her job to make sure he couldn't be happy about it.

"Can I go too?" She butted into the conversation with a grin, leaning on the kitchen counter smugly. Ignoring his groan of despair, her eyes glimmered pleadingly at their mom. "Pleeeease?"

Melissa bit back a smile. "I don't know honey," the nurse attempted to say soothingly. "It's probably not safe for a middle schooler to be at a high school party."

At that, she had to raise a brow. "But we both know I'm more responsible than Scott–" no one acknowledged his indignant cry at that, "-and if it's the kind of party that isn't good for me, then why is he going?" Lola tried staring her mom down like the ladies at the hospital reception desk would sometimes with the rude patient families.

It didn't seem to be as effective as she had hoped as Melissa still merely stared back at her. Eyes darting in her brother's direction revealed he wasn't convinced either. Not that his opinion was relevant in these circumstances. But perhaps he could still have his uses.

"Scott can watch over me to make sure I don't get into any trouble," Lola suggested suddenly.

"Why do I have to–"
