Running. That's all we could do. The burning sensation in my legs grows with each step I make. The pain was becoming unbearable. I started stumbling, the stitch in my side piercing my lungs. "Come on Jueun, there's a gas station up ahead you can't give up yet" a desperate plea interrupted my cluttered thoughts, I look in the direction of the voice, it's Joshua. He must've dropped back a bit to make sure I don't fall behind, selfless asshole. All of a sudden I hear a piercing shriek, glancing back I see them. Mutated humans, stumbling barely being able to keep themselves on their feet, flesh hanging off in large chunks, blood pouring out of infected wounds, the smell of rotting corpses hanging in the air. Zombies. I face forward again not wanting to see how close they are. Suddenly, I see a faint outline of the gas station coming closer and closer with each step. There's no way I'm giving up not now, not ever. We finally arrived at the gas station, looking back I realized we didn't have much time before the zombies would have caught up with us. "Guys quickly get inside and start grabbing things to board the place up", Jihoon's loud voice filled the silence. We all rushed inside grabbing anything we could to board it up. I ran up to a shelf and started clearing the shelves of food as fast as I could, Jihoon ran over helping clear the other side of the shelf, once clear we grabbed the shelf and shoved it up against the window. "AAAAAAAHHHH" someone screamed, I whipped my head around to see a zombie trying to push itself in through the door, quickly without thinking I ran over to help. Grabbing a stick I pushed against the zombie but it kept fighting back, I slammed the zombie with the stick, breaking it in half. The shelf that the girl was trying to push into place was being pushed right back at us, wedging the broken stick in between the shelf and the smashed-up window I pushed the zombie out with everything I had, losing the stick while I was at it. As I was pulling my arm back in I felt something strong grab my arm, "arghhh" I yelped thrashing my arm around trying to pull my arm free. The girl behind me grabbed my waist and pulled me free, I flew into her, before standing up again to help the girl push the shelf into place along the door. With our backs against the shelf I slid down until I reached the ground, oh my god, I thought. The girl next to me was shaking tears streaming down her face, opposite me Joshua, Jihoon, and three other girls, who I didn't catch their names, sat crouched on the floor the look of disbelief and fear painted across their faces. The two older boys went out to the back looking at what supplies they held. The only thing stopping it from being silent was the groaning and shrieking of the zombies trying to twist their way in. We were safe. For now. But I couldn't help shaking, tears glossing my eyes. No, I wasn't scared. No, I wasn't cold. I was just trying to hide the bite raging on my arm.
