Long night

Alan and Jack walked Jade back home since they both had to go that way anyway. Jade walked through the front door to see the same man her mother had hooked up with last night. The same man that was there in the morning. Her mother still wasn't home so Jade took her shoes off and went upstairs to her room. 

Jades room wasn't big but it wasn't small either. She had a king sized bed in the corner of the room will fairy lights wrapped around the bed post. There were LED lights that lined the ceiling of her room that were currently set red. Jade had three huge bookshelves in her room, all filled with books with no space left. It was arranged in alphabetical order. In the other corner, was a small desk that had pens and pencils scattered over the paper lying on the desk. On the walls, there was string with peg clips on it to hold up pictures. Many pictures of Jades father flooded the string. Her dad became non existent to Jade and her mother. They hadn't seen him in the past 5 years. He took off with his new mistress and all our money. Jades mother worked hard to earn a lot of it back  but slowly started going downhill by drinking and having meaningless hook ups with random men.  

Jade took a seat at her desk and picked up a pencil. The pencil connected to the paper and started painting an image. Two hours after sketching and shading the paper it turned into a drawing of an island. There were coconut trees and a hammock that connected them both. She drew a parrot on one of the trees with lovely red and green feathers and hints of yellow. It reminded her of the island she read a book about. Two people get stuck on an island and go crazy. All the picture was missing, was the crazy people. 

Jade looked at the time and went downstairs to get something to eat. To her surprise, Her mother was home and was telling the man to leave. After he left, Jades mother spotted Jade stood on the stairs. 

Christie (Jades mum)-'' Hey sweetie. How was school?''

Jade-'' Fine''

Christie-'' Anything new?'' 

Jade-'' New kid. That's it''

Christie-'' Oh ok. How are your grades?''

Jade-'' I don't know''

Jade knew she was actually getting good grades. But she didn't talk to her mother anyway so she always tried to keep the conversation short even when Christie didn't want to. 

Christie-'' Well I have some bad news...''

Jade didn't respond and just sat down at the table with an able in hand. She bit down into it taking a round chunk away from the apple. 

Christie-'' You might need to get a job to help me financially. I'm sorry hunny.'' 

Jade-'' Whatever. You did this to yourself but yet again, I have to help and get you out of the whole you dug yourself into.''

Christie-'' What's that suppose to mean Jade?''

Jade-'' You keep spending money on dresses to look nice in the pub so you can get a guy to buy you a drink and hook up with you after. Dad knew you would soon spend so much money we would be in debt. So he took his shot and left. He took the easy way out. And I will soon too. I just have to wait 2 more years. Then I can leave you too. Then I can get away from him and do what I want for a change. And not work while I'm still in high school finishing my last year. Not trying to keep us financially stable at the age of 16.'' 

Jade got up and started to walk back up the stairs until her mother told her to stop. 

Christie-'' I'm trying my best Jade. I really am. But it's hard.''

Jade-'' Apparently so are the dicks of the guys you fuck'' 

And with that, Jade went back to her room. She turned her music on and started playing queen. She still never knew what her mum did for a job but whatever it was, it didn't pay well and didn't keep us stable. Most of the men she hooked up with, Would leave her money after she had spent the night with her but not all did so. 

Jade and Christie used to be close but after Jades father left, they both changed. And not all for the better.
