When an exorcist in this family turns 18 they get their very own familiar. It's a very special day because that's when the real journey and fun of fighting evil begins.
Khari had been up since before the sun rose training as always. She fought the wooden dummy for her knives back, throwing each of them into the ground until she'd freed them.

"Khari... are you really training on your birthday? Man, you're relentless." Khari looked up from collecting the knives. Standing in front of her was her eldest sister, Amani. "C'mon, I thought just us siblings could have breakfast. Mom and Dad aren't gonna be back from their mission until lunch." Khari put the knives away and walked inside with Amani.

After changing the two met up in the air way, at the table sat their other siblings listening to the radio as they ate. Khari joined them at the table. Zuberi, her eldest brother, slid over to her with a small box.
"Hey hey happy birthday to my favourite younger sister." He set it next to her bowl. Khari looked at him "I'm your only younger sister Zu." Zuberi shook his finger "nuh uh, I'm exactly a minute older than Tishala which makes her my younger sister too."
Tishala looked up from wrapping her head wrap and scowled. "Boy, I'm a minute older than you, don't get it twisted." She huffed before going back to what she was doing.
"Anyway, open my gift c'mon." He pushed the box so that it pushed her bowl out of the way and Khari smiled as she shook her head. "Alright alright calm down." She lifted the lid off the box and peeked in. Inside was a small charm that had their family crest on it.
She looked at Zuberi in surprise and he smiled. "We all pitched in and had the blacksmith make it. Since you get your familiar tonight we figured it's time everyone knows exactly where you're from." Khari took the pin from the box and smiled. "Thanks guys."

That night the whole family gathered in the yard. They stood surrounding Khari who stood in the middle with her parents in front of a golden pot. It's where these familiars come from.

Amari leaned over to Tishala and whispered "What do you think she's gonna get?" Tishala whispered back "Maybe a dog or a badger." Amari nodded. "I have my bets on an elephant or rhino."
The pot began to glow. Kharis' parents stepped back and she reached her hand into the pot. It began to change between several colours before landing on purple. After such stillness though, it began to flash before going full black.
Khari pulled her hand out and stepped back. Many around had drawn their sigils and daggers. From the pot a bright neon pink and green orb was shot out. It stopped mid-air and unfurled.

It was a demon.

Without a moment of hesitation sigils and other weapons that could reach were flying at it. The demon gracefully weaved and danced through each attack as it would send the items flying back just barely missing whoever originally attacked. It would then begin to descend, weaving past everyone.
Khari and all of her siblings had grouped together. Holding their daggers and getting ready as it flew towards them. They each began to attack. Amari, Tishala, Zuberi, Bakari. All of their attacks missed as the demon slipped by each of them and stopped in front of Khari. The demon had changed, they were now tall and had short white hair that turned pink towards the tips, bright green horns and a tail to match, and wore the most unusual clothes. They gave a big sharp grin.

"Happy birthday my new master. Sorry I'm so late to the party"
