Author's thoughts

I wrote this piece in 2011. At that time, I started reading Diane Ackerman's book The History of The Senses which is excerpted in the beginning. Each part of that book inspired several pieces I wrote about each of the senses. This is one of the two that I finished writing.

At that time, I also had a brief relationship with a queer Caucasian woman, the first time I was with a foreigner in my life. I wanted to explore some nuances and discrepancies of being in an interracial relationship while in the Philippines. As that kind of relationship sometimes bears its postcolonial challenges to heterosexual couples, I've always wondered if it were the same with same-sex couples. Some of those thoughts are reflected in this piece.
