Tangled in the bedsheets, I rest and recharge until my phone snaps me out of the moment of bliss. I check the name, frowning as I answer.
"Whats wrong?"
"Did you forget?"
"Huh?" I mumble.
"We're having dinner tonight." Elise sighs.
"Shit!" I groan.
Val stirs next to me, smiling in her sleepy state. She sits up, leaning her head on my shoulder while her hand touches my chest.
"You sound exhausted." My best friend states. "Have you been working late?"
"Not exactly..." I trail off, feeling Val's hand rub over my bare skin. "Listen, mind if I bring a guest?"
"Of course, just hurry up and is this guest human?"
"Yes, Elise." I mumble.
"Move your ass then."
I stare at my phone, shes always like this. I completely forgot about our monthly dinner plans.
"What's up?" Val yawns.
"How do you feel about coming to dinner with me?"
"I have nothing to wear."
"I can swing by your place."
She thinks for a moment, her hand doesn't stop moving. I watch her carefully, she smirks and starts to move her hand lower.
"Val." I warn. "Elise is going to kick my ass if I'm late."
"I'm sure she won't mind." The brunette whispers, continuing her pursuit with soft hands.
I gulp, holding back the urge to let her continue. I gently take her hand and give her a stern look.
"If you're a good girl and get ready we can have fun tonight."
"I like being bad though." Her mouth hovers over my neck. "But I do like the sound of having fun."
"So, will you join me?"
"I'd love to."After a lot of teasing and me trying not to pin this brat back to the bed to fuck her senseless again, we finally climb into my car.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Of course." I quickly glance at Val.
"Do you guys eat like food?"
"Yeah, but we choose not to because we cant taste anything. We taste blood and each type tastes different to different vampires."
"Huh, so do you eat?"
"I don't like being rude when I go to dinner so yes, but I always carry blood to taste something."
"Do you get drunk?"
"Oh yeah, but not like you guys." I chuckle. "Drink the blood of a drunk person? Gone, completely gone. A few shots? Nothing, but Absinthe? That's a dangerous drink for my kind."
"This is fun."
"You can ask anything you want, I'm open to questions." I chuckle.
"Is blood lust a thing?"
"Definitely, but we learn to control it."
"So, all blood causes it?"
"Nope." I shake my head. "It depends, its hard to explain but I'll try my best."
"I'm listening." She grins.
"So blood lust only happens with certain people...its like a strange connection. It can send us into a frenzy and if you find that person, its like a drug...it also releases endorphins that cause arousal."
"Was that in the kitchen blood lust?"
I gulp, trying to find a way to change the subject.
"Oh look, Hailey is waiting for us." I pull up into the driveway.
"Felix." Her voice is suddenly stern.
I turn to face her, she crosses her arms over her chest. I cant lie to her now can I?
"I need you to be honest with me if we're going to keep doing this."
"Alright." I sigh heavily. "Yes, what I experienced was blood lust."
"Anything else?" She raises an eyebrow.
"You really can read me." I chuckle softly. "Yes, vampires experience something called a spark...its uh...its basically our version of soulmates."
"I'm listening."
"I felt that with you earlier."
"You think I'm your soulmate?" Her voice softens.
I can read the shock on her face, but I force myself to nod slowly.
"We barely know each other."
"I know." I close my eyes, preparing for the worst. "It only happens once in our lifetime."
"What happens if the soulmate rejects them?"
Its happening...she's going to reject me right here and now.
"We move on, just like humans do but we still feel everything that person feels so it sends many into a spiral of depression."
"Felix." Every time she says my name its like I'm actually alive. "Look at me."
I can't, I know its going to happen. I feel her soft hands on my cheeks, running her thumbs along my cheekbones.
"Please." She whispers.
I force myself to open my eyes, I cant read her expression and it kills me.
"You're scared aren't you?"
I nod once, watching her eyes soften, she smiles slightly as she leans closer.
"You are the sweetest man I have ever met, and I want to make this work."
"You do?"
"I would be stupid to say no."
I slowly reach my hands out, holding onto her waist. The grin breaks out on my face as she presses her forehead to mine.
"So, what are we?" Her breath hits me lips, making me shiver.
"Will you do me the honor of being mine?"
"Of course." She presses her lips to mine.
I melt into the kiss, gripping her hips in my hands. We get a little too into it since we dont notice Hailey approaching the car. Usually, I be able to heat her footsteps from outside but right now I'm lost in this kiss. We both jump at the loud knocking on my window.Val and I walk into the house she shares with her best friend, Hailey eyes us up with a smirk.
"So...anything you wanna tell me?"
Val looks up at me, smiling happily while I wrap my arm around her waist.
"We're dating."
Hailey squeals, piercing my ears. She wraps us both into a tight hug, I pat her back awkwardly and clear my throat. She pulls back and mumbles an apology. Val rushes up to her bedroom to change and grab some clothes to bring back to my place. That's when the whole mood changes. Hailey walks up to me, poking a manicured nail into my chest.
"Listen here, buster. You hurt her and I will hunt you down."
"Hailey, I give you my word." I frown. "I will never hurt her."
"Swear an oath on that."
"How do you know about that?"
"I work closely with vampire law enforcement, I'm the human correlation officer." She smirks.
"Alright." I sigh.
I get down on my right knee, placing my right hand across my chest onto my heart.
"Hailey, I swear an oath to you here and now, on this day that I will never hurt Val in any way and I will protect her always."
"I accept your oath." She nods.
I stand quickly, hearing approaching footsteps. I turn and feel my jaw drop slightly. Val stands at the bottom of the staircase, a tight navy blue dress hugs her body beautifully, showing her natural curves. The neckline shows just the right amount of cleavage, not too much, just enough to look classy.
"What do you think?"
"I...wow." I shake my head, walking towards her. "You are stunning." I place my hands on her hips.
"Stop." She blushes, smacking me chest.
"I'm serious." I smile, admiring the woman in front of me.
"You look so good!" Hailey states from behind me.
"Lets go, don't want Elise kicking your ass." She giggles.
I take her hand in mine, grabbing her bags with my other hand despite her protesting. Please let dinner go well.
