Elizabeth looked in her mirror feeling uncertain with her outfit.
She turned to look at her friends Annabelle and Grace, "What do you think?" The girls giggled trying to hide the smirks on their faces. "Um, yea it looks great!" said Grace. Elizabeth nodded her head and turned back to the mirror. She thought her outfit looked bad but she also knew that her to best friends since childhood wouldn't lie to her. Would they?
"Are you sure you guys want to go to this party. I have a feeling something bad might happen. Y' know we could just stay in and watch some movies, I'll even let you guys have some stuff from my moms liquor cabinet." Elizabeth said.
"Come onnn, loosen up!" Grace said putting her arm around Elizabeth.
"This is the biggest party of the year, and I'm so excited to see Devon. He's a total snack," Said Anna.
"Alright then," Grace said, "let's go!"
The group of friends ran out to Elizabeth's Tesla. Elizabeth didn't like to show off her wealth but the other girls always convinced her to drive the expensive car.
Chance's POV
I looked around the party for my friend Devon.
"Hey man," He came up behind me and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. "Let's get you a drink."
These parties Devon hosted, they were always the same. Same people (usually rich), same objective: find a girl to take upstairs. But I was sick of that. I'm not rich, for starters. In fact, my family has it pretty rough. I wouldn't ever tell anyone that though. Especially because of the school I go to.
"Dude, look who it is," Devon said to me while pointing to a girl in a strange outfit with strawberry blonde hair.
"I recognize her..." I said confused on who it was.
"Ya, obviously, everyone knows who she is. It's Elizabeth Reid. Her parents own Reid Tech. She's a bit of a freak, too." Oh, her. She was in my English class and she annoyed the hell out of me. I mean, I've never spoken to her before but she rode to school in a Tesla. A Tesla. Come on, seems impractical to me. She's another one of the obnoxious kids at my school who have too much money to know what to do with. That's how everyone at my school is, after all, it's a private school. I'm only there because I'm on a hockey scholarship. My parents don't want me to pursue hockey as a career, but they wouldn't let me pass up the opportunity to go to this elite school (more like, elite prison).
Elizabeth was standing in a corner surrounded by a group of girls, although it seemed like they weren't talking to her. Her eyes flitted around the room, panic in her deep green orbs. She wrung her left wrist with her other hand. A bad habit, I guess.
She opened her mouth to speak to the girls around her.
Elizabeth's POV
"Hey guys!" I said over the music.
"Ya," Anna said. "What?"
"I was just... I was just wondering... I don't know what to do here."
"Oh Liz, find a guy to talk to. Maybe you'll finally have your first kiss." Anna said smirking. Grace giggled at her comment. "I'm going to go find Devon. Maybe you can talk to one of the hockey boys, although they're kinda out of your league." With that, Anna walked away, pulling Grace along with her.
I went over to the drink table and grabbed something. Honestly, not sure what, but Grace had been drinking something from here too so I'm sure it was fine. The music from the party blared and made my ears ring. Not feeling enough confidence to find someone to talk to yet, I stared at the crowd of dancing bodies and flashes of colors. Maybe I should dance...
I wobbled on my high heeled shoes to the middle of the room but didn't make it before my heels failed me and I tripped. I fell into a hard body, my eyes only meeting chest level of the guy. My drink spilt all over him.
"Oh my god! I'm so sorry!" The guy put his hands on my shoulders to steady me. I looked up to be met with the most beautiful brown eyes I had ever seen. "H-hi.." I said quietly, completely forgetting that I had just spilt my drink all over his shirt. I'm lost in my own world as I continue to stare at his sharp features.
"Hello?" He said. I squeak in surprise as I realize how long I was staring.
"Sorry..." I said while looking at my feet. "I'm really sorry I messed up your shirt."
"It's fine I guess." He said while grabbing a tissue to dab off the drink. "You know, your dress is a lot more messed up then my shirt." He said with a chuckle. At first I thought he was saying my outfit was ugly, but then I quickly realized that I had alcohol all over the front of my dress... Making it completely see through.
My cheeks heated up and I threw my hands over my chest. My eyes began to water. This was so embarrassing.
"Hey," he said. "It's okay. Here! Take my sweater!" He said while holding out a gray sweater way too big for me.
I sniffed, trying to hide that I had almost cried. "Thanks," I whispered while putting it on.
"Let's get you cleaned up. Do you know where the washroom is?"
"No."
"Okay, I'll show you," He put his large, warm hand on the small of my back and led me to a washroom. When we got there he began to walk away but I gently grabbed his wrist.
"C-can you wait outside for me?" I said surprising myself.
His eyes widened, "Oh, yeah, I guess" he said putting his hands into his pockets giving me a tight lipped smile. I closed the door slowly and rested my head on it. I just stood there for a second until I heard some muffled conversation. Then it sounded like he was walking away. I looked into the mirror and a tear dropped from my eye. 'He must think I'm so annoying' I thought. It's all I've ever been told by my parents.
