SILVO was the first, something hardly rare among the nixon family line. but he was the first of his many brothers and cousins to confuse his parents and those around them. he was the first to be born from an assumed affair and was the first for there to be something about him that wasn't quite his father.
they did, however, recognize that he leaned more toward his mother's side.
he was the first to resemble his mother. all down the line, everyone had taken after the dominant genes of their father. his mother's family had rejoiced when he grew messy dark hair paired with piercing green eyes, contrary to his father's (and his brothers, but that was expected) neat blonde hair and deep brown eyes.
his father was a twin. so most assumed she had just slept with the wrong twin. at first, they said it was hard to tell who he took after (it wasn't, they weren't even twins really). it was thought that he would take after his uncle more if that was who he truly 'belonged' to; or his father, if they were wrong.
it was his dark hair and green eyes that settled the long-overdue debate. and it also earned his spot as his mother's favorite child. the mole on his underarm, his nose, the shape of his eyes, his birthmark, all hers. he knew his brothers were at least a little jealous, so he just pretended to ignore the fact that his mother was often fawning over him. as if it was no big deal.
so he also pretended not to notice the way his brothers looked at him, looking for some form of semblance to their usually messy blonde and auburn hair, and piercing blue and brown eyes. but they could find no resemblance, with now more reason to hate him. jealous that he had what they couldn't.
he was not wanted by his father, nor his brothers, and yet their wife, their mother, adored him in every way (he was the youngest, the last, but he was her first).
it was irony at its finest.

IRÈNE was not planned and she most definitely wasn't the first surprise baby, not for her mother anyways. she knew this because her baby book started at six months and not from the time her mother was aware of the pregnancy.
she wasn't unwanted, but it was better than whatever the youngest nixon had going on (though the stupidity of the distant nixon families never failed to give her a headache.)yet, when she was born, her family was surprised by how dark she was, not at all the usual pale most babies are born with. but still, they cuddled and coddled her to no end and how she hadn't turned out spoiled was both a wonder and a relief.
it was not expected for her to take after her father in terms of looks, as it was a trait, albeit unusual, that skipped the women and girls of the king family. but when she was born, with skin just as dark, and eyes just as bright, filled with curious wonder, they knew she was her father's child.
but traces of her mother were there, even in the slightest of things (even if she didn't want to realize it), she came to realize over the years. a slim build and medium height (although a little taller, not that anyone could tell), like her mother; quiet and reserved like her father.
only her mother, a beautiful melanated woman, was unsure. this couldn't be her child. because last she had checked, her husband had dark eyes and bright hair. and she was no different.
