I slid down the bathroom wall to the floor and covered my ears with my hands. But it was no use. I could still hear them. I hate fights. And no not the physical fights but the full on screaming match that's happening right now outside the locked bathroom door. I would rather have a physical fight. At least then you could see the pain. These fights are the worse. Secrets are exposed, lies are told, threats are made, and trust is broken. Not to mention but it's New Years day. This is the thing with my family - we are usually pretty close. But when we do have fights it's full on and just happens to be on some day special. Last year it was on my 15th birthday. I try to close my eyes and give way to the unconsciousness that is sleep. I don't care that I'm in the bathroom corner hugging my knees and that this is very uncomfortable and in a few moments I will most likely not feel my butt. I don't care. I just want this fight to be over. But it is no use. In fact when my eyes are closed then sound seems to intensify and I loose it. I can't do it anymore. I hurridly stood up and unlocked the bathroom door and ran. I kept running untill I was out the house and untill I was on the streets. Unfortunately my house is small so in order to get out of the house I have to pass the living room where my family is and where the screaming match is taking place. This results in my big sister seeing me and running outside after me. It was when's she yelled out my name that I stopped running.

"Becca!"

I kept silent with my back towards her.

"Becca!"

She was much closer now.

"Becca!"

She is right behind me.

"Becca!"

I turn around and I see her standing in front of me. she brown hair is all messed up and around her brown eyes is all red and puffy from the crying. she probably mirrored me at the moment. Me and my older sister both have dark brown hair and brown eyes but my eyes are darker making them almost black. Where as my younger sister, Stella, has dirty blond and blue eyes. My older brother, Ben, has blue eyes too, except he has brown hair. I turn and look around us and see that we are down the street and no doubt the neighbours front porch lights are on and you could see them peeking through their blinds. I don't pay attention to them for long as my sister grabs my hand and starts dragging me back home.

"Lily wait"

She doesn't reply, just continues to drag me back home. But I don't want to go back.

"Lily stop!"

I successfully yank my hand out if her grasp. She turns to me with a pissed off expression bug I don't care I'm not going back home.

"What Becca?, Just stop wasting time and let's go back home. besides we have given people enough to see."

Lily being the self conscious one in the family turns back home but I being the stubborn one doesn't want to.

"No Lils I'm not going back in there it's too much." I try to reason with her but it doesn't work.

"Becca you know that we have to go back on come on."

"No I'm gonna wait here and call Ben to pick me up this time then we can all go until this blows over."

Ben always does this. When our family fights he takes Stella and they drive off somewhere until the next day when the climax of the fight is over. His is excuse is that he doesn't want Stella to hear them fight as she is 'little'. She is ten years old. I think she is just his excuse. lucky her i guess.

"You can't do that Becca, you know why we can't go with Ben and you know why we have to go back home."

And with those words I remember. Well technically I can't but Lily can. Mum pulled a knife one fight ages ago. nothing even close to that happened again but I guess the fear got into Lily and she never left a fight ever again and for some reason I stayed with her. So with one last glance at the her eyes, the ones pleading for me to go back home and I finally give in. I take Lily's hand and start walking back home.
