The next few days were filled with you and the gang preparing for the trial, more intense work shifts at the Cafe, happier days at school, as well as you and Hiro going on small friendly dates around the city. You had to admit, amidst all of the busy-ness going on in your life, there was never a dull moment. Everything you did was actively engaging that you had no time to complain. Even Hiro noticed your change of attitude as you went about with the days.
"I have never seen you this happy before," he finally told you the day before the trial as you hung out at the beach again as a small friendly date. You have all finished making notes for your trial by then, so you had lots of time after finishing homework to hang out with your friends, and by chance Hiro asked you to hang out with him at the beach in the evening, which obviously you agreed to. The sky was clear on that day, and as the waves lapped against the shore gently, you and Hiro spread a towel across the sand and rested near the water, your toes barely touching the wave turfs as it crashed on the sand.
You smiled at him. "Well, for the time being it kept my mind off of my family. But you know, I'm not as angry as I was before. Somewhere up there, my parents are there supporting me all the way."
"You mean they won't be taken over by evil spirits and haunt you?" Hiro teased.
You smirked and punched his arm playfully. "Shut up."
"I'm just kidding!" Hiro protested, but he smiled when you did.
"Dude. I know."
You sighed happily as you took a sip from (Y/F/CD), looking up at the sunset.
"It's so beautiful," you whispered, putting your drink down and leaning on Hiro's shoulder as he instinctively leaned his head on yours in response.
"Yeah," he agreed, putting an arm around you. "Peaceful, even."
You remained silent for a bit. "Hey Hiro?" you spoke up quietly.
"Yeah?" Hiro's voice entered your mind like a well-constructed melody, and you sighed.
"Don't you wish that sometimes you just want to freeze in the moment, right here, right now, and live in it forever?" you finally murmured, turning your face just a little bit to look at him.
(A.N. haha, see where I copied this idea!)
Hiro smiled back as he ran a hand through his hair, before gently cupping your face with it, his fingertips just softly touching your jawline. "I don't see why not. Just imagine it, (Y/N). You and me, alone on the beach, with no worries about a trial coming up the next day."
"Don't remind me," you said, an edge in your voice. "But yeah, it would honestly be nice. Though now that we mention it, what will become of us?"
"You mean...you and me?"
You nodded. "I mean, what if our lives become so warped that by the end we won't have time for each other?"
"We'll work things out," Hiro promised. "We've made things work out so far, what even with you in high school, me in college, and the like. But if there comes a time that our lives drive us apart, remember I won't forget you."
"I remember making that promise back on the island," you recalled. "I mean, yeah. If that time ever comes, I'll keep you in my heart. Always."
As cheesy as it sounded, you believed every word you said, and Hiro did too. Chuckling, he then brought out a small packet of gummy bears from his pocket and tore the package open.
"Want one?" he asked you.
You grinned. "I didn't know you liked gummy bears!"
"Well, now you do," Hiro smirked.
