Quackity awoke to a crash, and checked the clock near his bed. 2 am.

"Quackity?"

The man looked over to the bed next to his. Sapnap's. He could see the figure of his fiance in the dark room.

"Hey, Sap. I just heard something. Go back to sleep. I think Karl might have tripped in the dark." Sapnap sat up, opening his glowing orange eyes.

"If Karl is hurt, I wanna know. I'm going with you. Where did the sound come from?" the blazeborn asked. Quackity paused, recalling the rooms in his house.

"The kitchen. Definately the kitchen," he said after a second or two. Sapnap nodded and stood up, crossing the room. He turned on the light and beckoned for Quackity to follow.

The couple crept down the silent hallway. With every step, Quackity became more nervous. What if Karl was seriously injured? What if Dream or Wilbur or... or Tommy broke in and attacked him? He shouldn't be scared. Karl tripped all the time in the dark.

The door to the kitchen creaked as Sapnap opened it.

Quackity turned on the light.

His worst fears met his eyes.

The kitchen was a mess. Bloody handprints covered the walls and counters and drawers, and a trail of it dragged to behind the kitchen island. The two rushed forward, circling the island-

Glass spread out everywhere, all across the floor. And in the middle of it lay Karl, his hands and limbs cut. A large, bloody gash ran along his cheek. His eyes glowed white, bathing the still body in a mysterious, frightening aura.

Quackity screamed, falling to his knees next to his fiance. Sapnap knelt down, taking Karl's head and resting it on his lap. He said nothing. Quackity looked up. "Nick... Nick, please. You must know something. Anything! If I don't know then you do!"

"⍑ᒷ ꖌリ𝙹∴ᓭ リ𝙹ℸ ̣ リ╎リ⊣."

The two looked down. Karl watched them with bright eyes. "||𝙹⚍ ∴╎ꖎꖎ ⍑𝙹ꖎ↸ ᒲᒷ ꖎ╎ꖌᒷ ℸ ̣ ⍑╎ᓭ 𝙹リᓵᒷ ᒲ𝙹∷ᒷ. ╎ ∴╎ꖎꖎ ʖᒷ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ⎓╎∷ᓭℸ ̣  ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ⎓ᔑꖎꖎ. ∴⍑ᒷリ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ∷ᒷ↸ ʖ╎∷↸ ⎓ꖎ╎ᒷᓭ. ∴⍑ᒷリ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ↸∷ᒷᔑᒲ ʖᒷᓵ𝙹ᒲᒷᓭ ᔑ リ╎⊣⍑ℸ ̣ ᒲᔑ∷ᒷ. ∴⍑ᒷリ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ⊣𝙹↸ᓭ ∷ᒷ⍊ᒷᔑꖎ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷᒲᓭᒷꖎ⍊ᒷᓭ."

"K-Karl?" Sapnap stuttered. And Karl closed his shining eyes, his mouth falling slightly open. Suddenly he looked human. Suddenly he was Karl.

"What happened to him. What was he saying?" the shortest man said. Sapnap shook his head and scooped Karl into his arms. He stood up, looking towards Quackity.

"I'm going to take him to bed, ok? In the morning I will find my father. He knows about these kind of things," the brunette replied. He bent down and kissed Quackity gently, then walked down the hallway. Quackity sighed, and looked around. The kitchen. Right. He rolled up his sleeves and got to work.

Bad opened his door to find his son standing on the threshold. Sapnap looked beaten, worn. Dark bags hung under his eyes and his hair was a complete mess. Bad slowly stepped to the side, allowing the younger man to come in.

Skeppy looked up as Sapnap entered the living room and plopped down on the couch. "Skep, could you get some of the leftover lemonade Ponk made for us?" Bad asked as he followed. Skeppy nodded and stood up, and made his way to the kitchen. He returned with a tray, three glasses of lemonade sitting atop them.

"Sapnap," Bad began after taking a glass. "Tell me what's wrong. You're a mess. Why did you travel all the way to the Badlands to see us?"

The man looked up. "Karl's... sick. He was speaking in some weird language, his eyes were glowing, like yours. There was blood everywhere... Quackity's scared out of his wits... a-and you're the o-only one I can th-think- think of to consult... Dad, I don't understand what's happening, and Dream's back, and Tommy’s different-" Sapnap paused as Bad pulled him into a hug. "W-What's this for?"

"Thank you," Bad whispered. "I missed you Sapnap, and I promise to help you any way I can. You're my son."

Sapnap suddenly remembered a time, carefully locked away in his mind. A house by the beach. A mirror that he watched himself grow up in. Freshly baked blueberry muffins on the stove. A smile. A laugh.

This was his childhood, perfectly preserved.

And Sapnap remembered that he loved his father. He loved him then, he loved him now.

So he said thank you.

He said thank you by squeezing back.

Bad pulled away. "Bring me to Karl. Skeppy, I'll need some help."
