My knees burned where they scraped against the asphalt road.
The night sky lightened slightly with the changes of the sun, but the chaos still roared.
The guard with the scanner was still going down the line, with the brander still following.
Fuck.
I can't do this. I'm not human. They have the wrong person.
"Please, you don't understand. I have a tail. I'm Qtr, I'll prove it to you. Pull down my pants," that might have not have been the best idea to fall out of my mouth.
"You're not Qtr, quit lying," the guard that dragged me over said. "And you'll get to pull your pants down soon enough," he laughed, a couple other guards joining in.
"What does that mean? Please, you don't understand. I'm not ready for this. I'm a simple bartender; any drink you want I can make," Lie. I am a sucky bartender.
"Shut up. It'll be over soon enough and you can go back to doing whatever you do."
That didn't reassure me in the least.
My heart was thundering in my chest, my tail swishing in my pant leg.
It'll be okay. They weren't doing anything with the men and I could tell a couple of them were missing. Hopefully from leaving of their own free will.
The scanner kept getting closer and the man's black boots crept closer and closer to my knees. The man next to me got scanned, the guard shook his head no, and the other guard came up behind the scanned male and branded the back of his neck.
"Wait, wait- I'm not a human," I said as he reached to the place in front of me. I tilted my head back, only seeing a black mask with the device pointed at my head.
I underestimated how scary the scanner would be just pointing at me. Realistically, I knew it would just beep, but my mind kept saying, "gun".
The device beeped once and the soldier tilted his head almost robotically. What? Where's the nod? He's supposed to nod.
The man clicked something on the screen that only faced him and steadied the device at my head again. It beeped. Just like everyone else, but the male shook his head yes.
"Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no. You don't understand. I'm not human. I'm half Qtr. I am. I can prove it," I started to reach for the waistband of my sweats, but was pulled to my feet by someone behind me.
"Do you guys hear me? I'm not who you think I am."
"We know exactly what you are," one of them replied, while my wrists were being placed into cuffs behind me.
I felt a sharp sting on my neck and tingles drifted throughout my body before it went completely numb and I lost my footing, but before I could fall, I was hauled over a shoulder.
I noticed how the line still continued while the man holding me kept walking. The scanner guard kept shaking his head no and the men kept getting brands. I noticed a couple of men getting over the dizziness of the pain and medicine and walking away.
I don't think they realized what had happened, but neither did I.
I soldier holding me over his shoulder reached a cargo truck and a different guard opened the back of it and the one holding me set me down on the floor.
"Why are they still going?" the guard that opened the door asked.
"You don't ask questions Recruit 9, but I'll entertain you just this once. We have to check for extra and disqualify the ones that aren't compatible," the one situating me in the truck said.
All there was in the back was a white, glowing ceiling and a carpeted floor, that I had to admit was very soft.
The alien holding me flipped me on my stomach and fear flooded me. I couldn't fight back; I was completely numb. But all the soldier did was undo the cuffs and roll me back around.
He put me in the middle of the floor and patted my knee before motioning for the recruit to close the door.
"Really? That's it? That's all we were looking for?" he asked. "I'm mean- he's pretty hot, but we traveled all this way for this single human male?"
I wasn't human, dammit!
"He's not human," Thank you! "He's half. And it doesn't matter. His uses are invaluable. Plus, he's not the only one. We came for multiple of these men."
Wait. What did that mean?
I didn't get to get my answer as the door shut and a hissing noise filled the air. I breathed in and immediately got drowsy, and my mind went to mush.
