Bailey

Chapter 8

Bailey had just about dozed off when Ashley started to stir. Ashley blinked.

"Yeah, are you alright?" Bailey asked.

"What happened?" Inna mumbled.

"Nick knocked you out," Bailey explained. "I came in and chased him off." Ashley helped Inna up and Maya woke up as well. Bailey grabbed her backpack and explained exactly what had happened. When Bailey reached the part about Cat, she sprinted out the doors. Cat was gone. She must have left. Inna, Maya, and Ashley followed her.

"I can't believe you beat Nick!" Inna exclaimed.

"I think it's funny how your enemy is named Cat," Ashley laughed. "And you have dog powers! And you're enemies!"

"I'm sorry I couldn't help you," Maya apologized to Bailey.

"Well, it's not your fault you were unconscious," Bailey told her. "Now let's go back to the base and I can show my powers." Inna started to skip away. Ashley slowly shook her head saying, 'Inna is always like this.' She followed her and left Maya with Bailey. Maya smiled and waved to Bailey for her to follow her. Bailey hesitated before letting Maya lead the way. Bailey knew her life would change a lot because of the hard choice she made of becoming a superhero. She hoped that she had chosen the right path.

"Alright, let's go," Bailey called. She ran after Maya and turned when she turned. When Maya stopped at the basement door, Bailey almost crashed into her.

"You must know that this is the way to the base by now, right?" Maya asked.

"Yeah," Bailey answered. "The base is in the basement. Ashley's idea?" Maya nodded. She climbed up a short, wobbly ladder and climbed through an open window. Bailey tried to follow, but the ladder was on uneven ground and toppled over. Bailey hit her head on hard dirt and winced as the ladder fell on top of her.

"Bailey?" Inna's voice asked above her. "Are you okay?"

"Not really," Bailey replied. She shoved the ladder off of her and stood up.

"Grab my hand, I'll pull you up." Inna told her. She reached through the window and Bailey grabbed her hand. She used Inna's hand as a rope, walking up the wall. Bailey finally leaped through the window. She almost landed on top of Inna, but she turned to the side just in time.

"C'mon slowpokes!" Ashley called. Inna chuckled and led Bailey to the elevator. Bailey pressed the down button and it happened again. Bailey felt like she was floating. Maybe that was because she was! Her feet hovered two feet above the ground and her head was almost hitting the ceiling. Inna started to float too, but she seemed more calm about it. She twirled in the air as Bailey was trying not to scream. Inna held Bailey's hand and they both crashed to the ground. Inna landed on her feet but Bailey fell on her back. Inna laughed again. She helped Bailey up and led Bailey into the base. Ashley was waiting for her.

"Now let's see your power again," said Ashley. Bailey nodded and rolled her shoulders. She stretched her neck and sighed.

"Let's do a... a... great dane," Bailey decided. "Big. Gray. Tall." She closed her eyes and, when she opened them, her vision was totally different. The base looked so cool with dog eyes! Inna squealed in delight. Maya kept working on the giant screen that Bailey had used to find them. Ashley smiled at Bailey, nodding.

"Aw!" Inna squeaked. "So CUTE!!!" Inna speeded towards her with arms outstretched. Bailey backed up in surprise. Inna hugged her neck, almost choking her. Bailey growled. Inna gasped and jumped back.

"Alright, no growling," Ashley scolded. Bailey growled at her. Bailey wasn't angry, she was scared. Ashley's voice is kind of scary. Ashley growled back. Bailey took this as a challenge. She stood up on her hind legs, towering over Ashley. Ashley's face started to look scared. Bailey knew that her friend was showing signs of weakness. She could be Alpha. When she thought the word 'Alpha,' her head hurt. Bailey hopped back down onto her four paws.
