A/N: To those of you who read my fanfics, you know I'm more of a one-shot kinda guy. I'm gonna try an adventure one, and hope it'll hit the Wattys. OK then, Starting Off.

---

Felix yawned. What a day, he thought. First I get my first Pokémon from Rowan himself, then I get to train it. Wow.

'Training it' was basically telling his Chimchar, "C'mon, scratch! I know you can do it!" while Chimchar monkeyed around, tossing Felix's cap around every opportunity he got.

Felix gazed around the quiet town from his seat on the top branch of the willow tree. In some ways, Chimchar was just like him. In others....not so much.

Felix loved Pokémon. He played with 'em all day, not caring a bit if a wild Pokémon attacked. He was usually strong enough to chase it away, and of course the ones living near his house protected him. Still, none of them was his own.

It all began when he set Rowan Labs on fire.

--

Felix blinked. Oh, no.

In both terror and awe, Felix watched the burning timbers and years of hard work on Rowans part get eaten away by the flames. Rowan Labs ceased to exist in barely a few minutes.

Of course, everyone in Sandgem Town, the one next to his and the one his mother had taken him just half an hour ago, was dousing the flames with all kinds of water Pokémon's water.

His mom had dropped him off at Sandgem under the eye of Dawn, Rowan's assistant and the one who had popped in to the Poké Mart for a minute to grab a soda can.

Rowan, the most terrifying person Felix had seen, stormed up to him. Luckily for Rowan, he'd been in the field outside Sandgem doing some research and hadn't been in the house during the fire.

"What happened?!" he thundered furiously. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY LAB?!"

Felix cowered back, feeling sweat run down his brow. "N-nothing, sir, I just...I just..."

"Tell me!"

Felix rubbed the back of his head. "Let me just say, sir, that Skuntanks really do shoot inflammable gas from the tips of their tails."

"You...you...you set my Houndoom's ember on it?!"

"Wow, sir," Felix commented, backing up slowly. "You have remarkable intuition."

"Never mind my intuition," Rowan said, his face turning bright red. "How are you going to compensate for this?!"

Felix felt in his back pocket. "Hmm...got 20 Pokémoney, sir. Will that do?"

"No need to be cheeky, boy." Rowan calmed down, studying Felix closely. "You're the lad who lives in Twinleaf, aren't you?"

"Yeah."

"The wild kid? The one whom all the Pokémon fawn over?"

"Umm, yeah..."

"The one whose mother is a friend of Dawn's father, my assistant?"

"Yes, I'm the one," Felix said irritatedly. "Why?"

"The one who stays outdoors ninety percent of the time?"

Felix spun around. "And the one who's running away," he said cheekily and sprinted off.

"Not so fast, young man," Rowan said.

"What's the matter?" Dawn walked out of the shop (whose owner either didn't notice the blaze or didn't care; he was sitting comfortably, reading the huge stack of The Pokémon Daily, the last few week's issues). "What happened?!"

Rowan flicked his hand. A Marill shot out of its Poké Ball.

"Marill, douse the flame, will you?"

"Marr, Marreeeel!" A powerful Water Gun finally put out the fire.

"Felix," Rowan said to the distracted boy who was staring at the Marill in awe, "let's come to a compromise."

"Huh? What?" Felix said, snapping his attention back to Rowan. "What didja say?"

"A compromise," Rowan said. "Your mom is out at Jubilife, isn't she?"

"Yeah, 'course. She's doin' the shopping."

"Well, we can keep this incident from her, and the town."

"Really?! Thanks a bunch, Gramps!"

"One, don't call me Gramps." Rowan snorted. "Two, you'll have to help me."

"Sure. What do I have to do?"

"Dawn," Rowan said. "The suitcase, please."

"Yes, Professor." Dawn handed over the suitcase she was holding.

Rowan opened it. Felix stared at it curiously. Inside were three Poké Balls. "What're those for?"

"Someone like you." Rowan tapped on the first one. "Turtwig, the Grass starter."

"For me?" Felix asked.

"Two, Piplup, Water starter. And three, Chimchar, Fire starter."

Felix stared at the three of them. "Hmmm....what're they like?"

Rowan waved the onlookers away. "Everything's fine," he called. "Piplup's a penguin, Turtwig's a turtle and Chimchar's a monkey."

"A fire monkey? Decision made!" Felix crowed, snatching the Ball. "And out you come, CHIMCHAR!"

"Chim! Chimchar!" the hyper monkey capered around.

"Awesome!" Felix grinned. "What'd you want me to do, do your shopping?"

"No, save the world."

"Say what?"

"Save the world. It's in danger and only someone with an unusual capability to bond with Pokémon can solve it."

Dawn spoke up. "Felix, this will be dangerous. A madman has captured one of the strongest Pokémon of all, ruler of time itself; Dialga!"

At the sound of the name, Felix thought he could hear a distant roar, a roar that ripped across Time itself.

"So what?" Felix asked, patting Chimchar's head.

"So," Rowan continued. "If nobody stops him, he will use the Pokémon to destroy the world!"

"Really? So...Pokémon will....die?!"

"Yes, and people too."

"But...." Felix narrowed his eyes. "Pokémon will get hurt. And I'll stop that."

"Wait, Felix. This man, he's captured Dialga and is using him, is controlling him. And you don't do that to a Legendary."

"Yeah," Dawn said. "So....whaddya say?"

"It's on. But first we'll need some training."

--

"Look, Chimchar," he told it. "We're gonna have to work together. The world is at risk!"

"Chim, chimchar!" it lashed out and set his cap on fire. After running around and yelling for a bit, Felix patted it out.

"That wasn't nice," he pouted.

Felix and Chimchar were on their way. After saying goodbye to his mom, he travelled past Jubilife City and into Oreburgh.

"So," Felix said. "There's a Gym Leader here. Think we should challenge him?"

"Chim, Chimchar." Chimchar shrugged.

"Nah, not important," Felix decided. And that was when the ground exploded in front of him.
