Jess maneuvered through the pulsating crowd, her heart racing as she climbed the steel steps, with Batman hot on her heels. A guard lunged at her, his fist swinging with power. She skillfully evaded the blow, causing Batman to take it square in the face instead. Swiftly, she struck the assailant in a sensitive spot, leaving him disoriented. Glancing at Batman, she asked, "Are you okay?"
"Watch out!" he barked, as another guard approached from behind. Jess spun around just in time to receive a punch to her chest.
"ACK!" she winced, rubbing her sore breast. "Right in the tit!" Batman swiftly intervened, punching the attacker without holding back. The disoriented guard was propelled over the railing, crashing into a group of unsuspecting people below. "Oops," Jess muttered as she heard their groans of pain.
Ascending the remaining stairs to the landing, Jess delivered a well-placed kick to another bouncer, sending him tumbling down the stairs. The two guards following him toppled over and ended up in a jumble of limbs on the floor.
Meanwhile, Batman had broken someone's nose and directed him towards Jess, who expertly flipped him over her back. Now on the floor, she pressed her heel into his breastbone with a determined gaze.
Suddenly, a pair of arms wrapped around her waist and flung her into Batman. They crashed to the ground with a loud grunt. "Are you made of steel?" she quipped.
Glaring at her with intense green eyes, he replied, "I hate you."
Above the deafening music, the distinct sound of a gun being cocked reached her ears. Looking up, she spotted a bouncer on the balcony, aiming a shotgun directly at Batman. "Look out!" she shouted. Batman swiftly wrapped his arm around her waist, flipping her beneath him. The blast hit him in the back shoulder, pushing him closer to her. Shrapnel from the bullet grazed Jess's shoulder, leaving a painful gash. "Dammit!" she cursed.
Batman quickly extended a device from his arm, shooting a grappling hook that ensnared the guard, bringing him down to the ground.
It reminded her of something out of a spy movie, with secret gadgets and concealed compartments hidden beneath his suit. Jess pushed him off and used his chest for support when she noticed another doppelganger approaching. She propelled her body upwards, her legs kicking high in the air as her heeled feet connected with the twin's face.
Bruce regained his footing and punched the remaining twin, putting him in a headlock.
"Woah!" a voice exclaimed. "Take it easy there, sweetheart!" Jess turned her attention to the source of the voice. It was Penguin, extending his hands in a gesture to cease the fighting. "You two are quite the feisty couple, huh?"
Easing the pressure off the man's chest, she leaned in closer. "You're not easy to track down," Jess said, crossing her arms.
"Well, that means you were looking for me," Penguin observed. He glanced down at the foot still pressed against the twin's face. "Looks like you've met the twins." He chuckled. "Defeated by a cosplayer and a fiercely determined woman, how amusing." He extended his hand for Jess to shake. "I'm Oz." Jess withdrew her foot and shook Penguin's hand without a word. "My, aren't you stunning," he whistled.
