Conscripts. (MHA)

What a pain. Aizawa thought after leaving the school staff meeting.

They had just recently been attacked in the forest training grounds by some band of villains, luckily the students and staff suffered minor casualties, however they had lost two people to the villains: One was Katsuki Bakugou and the other was a Pussycat team member. Devastating losses to the school's reputation alongside the morale of the students. Even then, the entire situation was placed under control, A group of pro-heroes alongside the police were formed to rescue their captured friends, thanks to the help of a student who placed a tracker on one of the villains that night.

He passed through the empty classrooms and into the cafeteria where he spotted a lone student, sulking on a bench. Aizawa was slightly annoyed. Students should be in their dorms at this time and hour. He thought as he approached the student, But the footsteps had alerted the boy who turned towards Aizawa. It was Blackthorn, the American transfer student.

Blackthorn played a huge role in the ambush, directing students to safety and paid close attention towards the classmates that were near him to keep cohesion and rally towards the camp. He had repeatedly done the same action over and over again.

Unfortunately in his valiant rescue mission, Blackthorn had been seriously wounded by a villain and was only saved from death when his friend, Vinck, The Half Dutch-English transfer student, saved his life.

Vinck brought him back to camp where he could no longer execute his rescue mission, but Vinck, a courageous boy and as fearless as ever, continued the mission for him.

After the battle Blackthorn was escorted out to the medics, he had only suffered a stab wound around the hip area and it was most likely he would survive with medical care. He was placed in an ambulance and was driven off to the hospital.

Soon Blackthorn would be informed by some of the students in class 1B that Vinck had been killed in the forest and that his funeral would be taken in three days.

Aizawa noticed the pain and remorse Blackthorn had on his face, and as a sole duty as their homeroom teacher, he sat down on the opposite side of the bench, facing him, giving full attention to Blackthorn. The student replied with a split second notice of eye contact.

They discussed the current situation, his mental state and also his physical condition. Aizawa had learned the deep remorse he had felt and he too felt saddened from the terrible loss. Guilt had blamed him for being irresponsible. But what could I do? He thought. It was too messy, I was too occupied.

"We're just. . .conscripts aren't we?"Blackthorn silently claimed in english. However before Aizawa could reply Blackthorn had left, walking towards the direction of the exit.

Aizawa sat there, alone. His hands grasped together on the table as his eyes were locked in the path Blackthorn took.

In Blackthorn's room was Naga, a close friend of Blackthorn who shared the same grief as him. He sat down on the chair beside his bed while Blackthorn sat on his bed, his head lowered.

"Anjin-san?" Naga called out quietly with the nickname he was given.

"Yes?" Blackthorn answered.

"I was thinking."

"About?"

"Will we end up like Vinck?"

The question pierced their hopes, terror was casted in their hearts.

"I-I don't-" Blackthorn stuttered, the question catching him off guard and setting him into an empty void in his head of rapidly forming thoughts.

"It's a deathfield out there." Naga continued, his voice shaky but controlled.

"I know."

A knock on the door and the door was opened, it was Goroda, a student that was the closest to Vinck.

"Here's some snacks and drinks." Goroda hurled the consumables towards them. Then he noticed the dull aura in the room and the depressed faces of the two.

"What's going on?" He asked.

"Oh, It's nothing- well something, I just can't- put it together-" Naga struggled to reply.

"I'm thinking of quitting." Blackthorn told him out of the blue.

"You can't be serious Anjin-san." Goroda replied, his voice full of disbelief.

"Actually, I'm also thinking about dropping out." Naga said, allying with Blackthorn.

"You too Naga?"

Naga nodded in the affirmative.

"Why? Is it because of Vinck?"

Both of them nodded.

Goroda sighed."Look, I know it's hard on you both, even myself as well. But we can't quit! We've com-"

"Why?" Blackthorn interrupted. "Why can't we just live normal lives like other people? Why do we have to risk OUR lives for people that don't give a damn about us?!"

"Look-" Goroda tried to converse however he was struggling to find the answer. "Look, We can't quit, we just can't."

"For what? For glory? For honour? For fame? We're just a bunch of kids fighting a fight that has nothing to do with us, It's a damned deathfield out there! Look at Vinck! Because he was so fooled by his own 'glory' and look at what it cost him!"

"Anjin-san." Goroda's heart was gripped with anger, his hands were clenched. "Vinck fought and died how he wished. He's braver than any one of us here. If you both desire to quit, then so be it. But know this: Once we achieve victory over the villains, Know that Vinck and maybe many others including me, have fought for something."

"And if you don't?"

"Then I am pleased that I played my part." Goroda's voice was controlled but he was at his breaking point, Goroda quickly turned around and walked away.

"And what are you fighting for?" Naga interrupted.

Goroda stopped just as he was about to exit the room. "For peace."

"And how many years has it been? Too long. Where is the peace?"

"It's because. . ." Goroda shook his head and walked out.

"Where is the peace?!" Blackthorn stormed out but Goroda just kept walking, heading towards his room.

"Don't you see?! There will never be peace! It's all chaos! I'm dropping out and you should too!"

Blackthorn pointed at him, his outwardly loud voice captured the attention of the classmates that were present.

"Anjin-san! What's wrong?" Momo asked, her English was the best out of the entire class.

Blackthorn turned around to face his classmates. "Don't you all see? Were just fucking pawn-"

"ENOUGH!" Goroda shouted. "Anjin. If you are so timid and cowardly then It's best for you to leave. Naga as well, your words seem to have poisoned him. Leave."

"What's that? Trying to be the leader now are you? You're just like Vinck." The tension was strong between the two. "He was blind with his selfish dreams of becoming a good hero!" He shouted.

"Yes! He was following his dreams! Better than you I suppose! You're cowardly, scared of reality! You were once like him, Anjin! But now look at you! Once the real deal shows itself you run away, while Vinck. . . Vinck did what we could not."

Blackthorn couldn't reply, those words were right. He grunted loudly as he returned to his room, slamming the door behind him.

"Goroda-san. What happened?" Ojiro asked, breaking the awkward silence.

"Filthy cowards, that's what." Goroda answered as he went into his room, the door locked. (end)
