In the 21st century the media has a lot of influence on us in our day-to-day lives. Especially when thousands of news articles are being released every day. These news articles are being filtered to fit our political views and our personal beliefs. This can be dangerous as the media is only exposing us to our own views, this can lead to are opinions and views being heavily biased with what the media want us to believe. So, this means that it is particularly important that we all learn how to be media literate so we can avoid being manipulated by the media.
Vegans are unfairly targeted in the social media, particularly in memes. Look at this meme
This meme paints the picture that all vegans have the need to shout and talk about veganism 24/7. When you think vegans, you think self-righteous, arrogant people who believe they are above the rest of society to the point that in all their spare time they judge people's food habits that don't align with their beliefs. In reality that is far from the truth, the reasons this generalization continues to persist is because the media. There are plenty of memes on the internet making fun of vegans and their lifestyle. And yes, there are some that make their whole personality about their food choices but why does a small majority of this community have to affect everyone? I know why it's because of the media taking these stories and making memes so when someone that is not media literate sees these, they will assume that's what a vegan is, a crazy person that only talks about being vegan. Majority of the population have this distorted image of vegans to the point where it has become the norm to hate and criticize this group of people.
In 2018, a vegan activist that goes by the name 'that vegan teacher' started posting videos on tik tok, comparing mass animal slaughter to major events that have happened in the past and present. This is one of the few people of the community that bring a bad name it
