note :: this is inspired by valorant's lore. i tweaked some of their abilities because in the lore their abilities would be different. also, sunghoon's abilities are made up and not from an existing agent because sunghoon.

It hit us all suddenly. A ring of light in the sky that shone so brightly it dried up most of the grass. Then quakes that shook the earth, leaving cracks all over the ground, buildings crumbling to the ground. Wildfires burned on in several parts of the world, while monsoons poured on the other side. It was utter chaos. Many were left dead. But it was only the beginning.

The next phase began with lightning striking the ground. Lightning that no one has ever seen before. They struck deep into the earth, leaving residues that man would soon find and monopolise, but that was for the future. Or, the present.

Governments were frantically trying to find a solution to this phenomenon. Until they gave up and focused on saving people. Because the next thing this lightning went after was people.

Among them was me.

They think we're cursed. The humans think we're cursed, that we've done bad things. That's why we're being punished by the lightning.

I've never felt so alone in my life. And never have I felt so angry either.

A few months after the phenomenon, some scientists found the residue that resided in the ground, left by the lightning. This was now known as radianite, and it was a powerful source of energy. Now, all the humans think that the lightning was to actually save us, giving us another source of energy before all the existing forms ran out.

Then they got greedy. For knowledge and for money.

A new corporation was formed. Their primary focus was to supply energy using the radianite they dug up from the earth. But it wasn't enough for them.

Because we existed. The radianite that struck us became a part of us, giving us abilities. And they wanted to study us. We were now segregated from humanity. Called radiants.

At first, all of us thought that Kingdom, the new radianite research corporation, was going to help us return to our normal lives, but we soon found out the truth, so we fled.

But not before they took a part of me.

After 2 years of hiding and running, I realised,

that those who died at the start of this, were the lucky ones…

I twirled the dagger in my hand. It was fun playing with it. Though it cut me as I spun it around, I couldn't feel anything. No blood flowed. After all, I was dead.

Yes, the lightning that struck me killed me. It struck me square in the heart, killing it. But, this little radianite shard is also what's keeping me alive. Though, I must say, maintaining it is a pain.

Unlike other radiants who were luckier, they could still taste the flavours of the delicacies they could find in recovering cities. Unfortunately for me though, my palate had gone dry. For now, only the souls of my victims could satisfy me.

I would consider this a curse. Or the old me would have. Now, I love the abilities this little piece of radianite gave me.

Because after I have absorbed enough souls, I can get my revenge.
