"What, Dovewing?" Lionblaze demanded as soon as we were away from camp. "Why'd you bring us out here?"
"It's about the prophecy, mouse-brain!" Dovewing snapped.
"Then why is-" Jayfeather began, but he was cut off by Dovewing.
"Why is she here?" Dovewing finished.
"Um, I don't even know why I'm in this world at all," I blurted out.
Dovewing angled her ears toward me. "Exactly that. You'e been saying weird stuff ever since I found you today, Firepaw. Explain." Their gazes almost burned a hole in my pelt.
"Fine! I'm not a cat!" I meowed. They looked at me in surprise. "Err, not that way. You see, I was a human-no, twoleg, before, and then, I was just reading the last book of the Warriors series, and POOFIE! I'm a cat all of a sudden!"
"Okay," Dovewing nodded. "But that still doesn't explain why you told me you already knew the territory."
What can I do? I thought frantically. I can't tell them they have books written about them!
"I.....well.....I...err......Like I said, I traveled territories a lot." I lied. Oh shoot. I knew that didn't fit in with my story.
Jayfeather's blind blue gaze seemed to scorch my fur. I looked away, and backed away. I had to move before he burned my butt with his intensity.
"So what is this, 'Warriors series' thing?" He asked.
"Um, nothing," I mewed. "Just, something called a book."
"A book?" Lionblaze tilted his head. "What's a-" The golden warrior was cut off by a loud screech.
Dovewing's eyes widened. "Who was that?"
"It sounded like it came form camp!" I exclaimed.
Dovewing stared. "How do you know?"
"Oh shut up, mousebrain!" I meowed. "Soemone's in trouble, for StarClan's sake! We need to go! And besides, don't you have super hearing?" Without waiting for my mentor's word, I bolted back through the forest, and in through the entrance to ThunderClan camp.
I pushed my way in through the group of cats who were crowded around something.
Someone.
I recognized the dark ginger fur from earlier. It was matted with blood, and blood was pouring from a giant wound in the neck.
It was Squirrelflight, and she was dead.
"What's happening?" Bramblestar's voice came out of his den. Bramblestar padded out, and pushed his way through the group. He froze when he saw Squirrelflight dead on the ground. "No," He mewed quietly. "No!"
Leafpool rested her tail on the ThunderClan leader's shoulder. "I'm sorry. I'm in as much pain as you are. There's nothing more we can do, but let Squirrelflight take a safe journey to StarClan."
"Who's going to care for the kits?" Daisy's voice rose from the silence. "There are three unnamed kits in the nursery, and they need milk, and warmth."
Bramblestar sighed. "Daisy, go to Jayfeather's den, and see if he has some borage leaves to help your milk come."
Daisy dipped her head. "Yes, Bramblestar."
"We will sit vigil for Squirrelflight tonight," Bramblestar declared.
"What about choosing a new deputy?" Some random cat yowled.
"I will...." Bramblestar's mew trailed off as he looked at the body of his beloved mate and former deputy.
Eventually, the group of cats huddled around Squirrelflight began to disband, and Bramblestar sank down onto the ground next to Squirrelflight.
