Prologue

    Our whole pack has always stayed in our territory. One of our pack members Liam was only 6 when ran away. He was curious about what was out there since it was unknown to us. His parents were worried sick and tried to find him. They couldn't find him, his scent was untraceable. His parents knew that he was dead and the pack mourned. Days later the alpha got news that humans killed Liam. Liams story was told every year on his death Anniversary. The story was told to children as soon as they could talk and it scared them enough that no one has ran off since. We couldn't attack these humans because it was unknown to us of their population. We just avoid them in hope that they won't attack. Our Alpha has encouraged pack member to help grow our population considering our pack is not very big and since the attack we've gotten warriors for precaution.
    That happened when I was 9 and I'm now I'm 17. I'm an only child my mother was unable to get pregnant and have a full term pregnancy after me. After many miscarriages she stopped trying to get pregnant as it was affecting her mentally. Our pack isn't very big with only 400 members. I'm training to be a warrior and will join them in guarding our borders when I turn 18. We have one big pack house where we do pack meetings and next to our pack house we have individual houses that seem like apartments. We have 1 school that is from kindergarten to seniors. The classrooms are very small.
Today is September 18 and ironically my turning 18 today. Whenever a pack member turns 18 everyone gathers in the pack house so we can find our mate as soon as possible and we celebrate with food and drinks. I got up early to help set up the event. I showered and made sure to look my best to impress my mate. I go down stairs and am greeted with a warm hug from my mother. My mother is petite and is 5'2."I can't believe your an adult now, soon you'll be mated and have children of your own. You'll always be my baby. I love you so much. It feels like I had you just yesterday. I'm sorry for getting emotional. "That's okay mom I love you so much I'm very nervous to meet my mate. What if she doesn't want me" "Honey you are one hell of a man and it's very rare for a rejection to happen now let's start setting up the party its in a few hours"
My mom is cooking and I'm assisting her. It's not everyday that you see a man in the kitchen. No it's not sexist our pack is very traditional and men do labor while women do housework. My mother didn't want me to turn out like that she believes housework is a life skill that everyone regardless of gender should learn. No my father isn't very happy about that and claims that I should spend less time in the kitchen as that will be my mates job and I should spend more time training. He says a woman wont need my help with chores but will need my protection. After helping my mom cook I start setting up tables and chairs with some of the other pack members and my father. We have a conversation and he tells me how proud he is of the man I've become and gives me a hug which he rarely those. The of the volunteers are setting up decorations.
The time has come people are slowly coming in and I have yet to smell my mate. Within the next hour all members are here except some of warriors who are out there protecting this pack. The Alpha, Luna , and I go up on stage. They start their speech. " Today Finn has come of age and we are honored to now call him a warrior. Whichever Lady is his mate is extremely lucky to have him" said the Alpha. "I wish you the best of luck in your relationship Finn " Said the luna I'm very honored to be a warrior and protect our pack unfortunately I have not find my mate whoever you are I'll meet you when you of are of age until then I'll wait for you" The whole pack applauds me and congratulates me on becoming a warrior. We celebrate by drinking and feasting. Our celebration come to a stop when we here a startling noise. It's not just one but multiple sound. The Alpha tells us to stay inside and tells all of the night shift warriors to come outside with him. I walk towards him and he shakes his head " I know your 18 but I feel like it's to soon."
I feel furious but stay the whole pack is on edge when we don't get a message through mind link. After 10 minutes the whole pack feels weak. That can only mean one thing we have lost our Alpha. The Luna is in tears and in extreme pain she's lost the love of her life. Her children are fatherless. The whole pack begins to panic. We have no warriors what are we to do. Time goes slow and suddenly people come come through our door I know they are humans. The only reason the could come through is because we are in the pack house that is unlocked right now due to my celebration. I know we are in deep shit we are all in one place with no warriors. Fear goes through my whole body. They have these black metal things and the next thing I know these metal things are going through pack members bodies we all are in shook. Blood is everywhere and men are trying their best to protect their family's my father included. My father tells me and my mother that we need to get out he said that through the pack link everyone listen to him since he is the Beta. Women and children start running up the stairs as well as a few teenage boys.
We go quickly go up the stairs and jump through the windows. Those that can shift, shift those that can't are with their mothers. " we need to separate I know they'll come after us and we are more vulnerable if we are all together" I say everyone nods there heads "after it's safe we will be mind linked and we can come back." Says another boy. We run off and hope for the best. Everyone separates except children who stay with their mother. After another hour I feel more people are dying and still no message from my father. I keep running with my wolf Francisco. " I'm sorry I couldn't protect this pack. No one come back it's not safe. Some of your mates have escaped and will reunite with y'all. I Love you Son. Melissa please forgive me". My father told the pack. I feel another loss and know it's my father. I cry why did such a tragic even happen on my birthday. Why do humans hate us so much how could they be so vile to us ? With all these events I need sleep. I settle near a tree and stay in my wood for I contact my mom and tell her I love her. I lay down in wolf form too keep me warm.
