Running through the forest, I cut across a swamp of clovers and jumped a rotting log. Today was the day they chose whether I was going to be part of a real pack, not just one me and my mates made up. I was so excited - oh and that's why I'm running through the forest. I'm late! Oh God, they're gonna make me an omega. My head was whirring with visions of becoming an omega and disgracing my parents... Who are the alphas... I was getting a headache in the front of my head and it was making me shake as I came up to the cave entrance which was also the chamber on acceptance into our pack. Being born with alpha parents makes no difference to being born with parents who are omegas or baiters so I was thinking I had NO chance of being baiter to my mother, Cleo. Two of my dad's friends, Raphiel and Plaito, we're stood outside chatting about my ceremony. I blushed bright red but with all of this fur, nobody could see so I padded past proudly. "There's the special girl! Hurry up Rouge, you don't want to keep him waiting." said Plaito whilst giving me as sarcastic a look as a wolf can give. I chuckled in agreement and trotted in. All of the wolves were there and they stood as I entered. "Be seated." said my father, Ralph. I sauntered over to the assessment ring and sat on the cloth that was waiting there. My mother, father and their baiters whispered into eachother's ears. I sat feeling quite intimidated by all of the deep grey, brown and black bodies shuffling around me. Me, we'll just to be awkward, I have white fur... So while my parents decide whether I'm to be an omega or baiter, I have to sit here and look all pretty - impossible when you're under extreme pressure!
"We have come to a conclusion." Cleo said, "You are to be accepted as my new baiter." She beamed at me and I beamed back. I ran forward, up the rock and into my parents fur. I sat there nuzzling their necks for several minutes before being removed by my best friend, Tia. She took me outside and we sat head to head for another few minutes. I was so happy and so was she - the only thing is though, Tia is an omega so she gets treated differently to me. For example, we have different feeding times, different hunting times and we're not really meant to be friends. Omegas are just there for back up when we get into fights with other packs. They make our pack look more powerful. I think that they should be equal but the rules say no. Shame really, me and Tia are bestest of friends no matter what walls are stopping us!
"Celebratory race?" Tia purred.
"That's why we're best friends. You know me so well!" So off we took, back into the forest I'd been so desperate to get out of just minutes ago.
