I'm Gonna Be Your Star

1 pm ; 11th October, 2020

"Hello, I'm Kaiya and I'm from the US. I have an interest in Japanese culture, so I came here a while ago as an exchange student. I love wrapping myself in a blanket and binge-watch a Netflix series without feeling guilty, and I'll be in your care from now on!"

Kaiya bowed politely to the group of teenagers, introducing herself in rather fluent Japanese. "Nice to meet you, Kaiya-chan!" Answered the girl standing next to Subaru. She had blonde hair with pink streaks styled in pigtails. "I'm Nijino Yume. Let's be friends!"

"Sure!" Kaiya beamed happily. The two girls immediately began to order food at the counter. 

Pointing at the two, Ako grinned. "That's our Yume-chan. Always open to new friendships."

Kanata let out a small laugh, pulling his love into a kiss. "Hopefully Kaiya won't go after Subaru after this. Subayume don't deserve such hardship." He pushed up his glasses. "Forgive me for being blunt, but I'd rather see my sister cry than knowing it was partially my fault that lead to the break-up of two of my closest friends, even when Kaiya becomes Subaru's girlfriend." 

The redhead nodded, grimly. "It's for the best."

The teenagers gathered in a circle while having lunch. "This is delicious!" Kaiya's eyes sparkled after Subaru praised her chef's cooking. 

"You can come here anytime if you want. Nakamura-san's cooking is always the best!" She replied, leading to her brother shaking his head. Over the past minutes, Kanata couldn't help but notice his sister wanting to get Subaru's attention. Since he knew Subaru already had a girlfriend, Yume, a-k-a one of his girlfriend's besties, he had to stop her. 

How, though?

Subayume were not publicised, unlike him and Ako. Besides, since Subaru and Yume were the most popular members of their respective groups, and not even a half of S4 nor M4 fans actually shipped them, compared to almost 90% when a YouTuber decided to ask fans whether they supported Kanata and Ako as a couple. 

The brunette, the smartest among his group members, knew this might cause a big negative reaction amongst the public. And he wanted to play safe when it came to their staggering number of obsessive fans. 

Kaiya sat on the floor, her legs crossed, in between Koharu and Subaru, busily devouring her Pasta Fagioli Soup. Nanakura, on the other hand, preferred macaroni coleslaw. "You're right, Subaru-kun! The food here is delicious!" 

"I must ask the chef for his recipe." Yume stated. "What's his surname again, Na... Nakamura-san?" 

Kanata stepped into the 'circle', slouching next to his sister. "Yep." Holding his plate, he settled down next to his girlfriend, kissing her for a few seconds before digging in. 

"By the way, I heard Mahiru-chan has a crush on someone! Can someone help spill the Four Star tea?"

"According to my analysis, she likes Lucas from the vocal division, if I remember correctly."

"H-Hoshi-kun?" Subaru asked. "No way in hell! He-- argh! Nozomu!"

Kaiya was confused, as the others all laughed except Mahiru. "What the hell is going on?" She whispered in her brother's ear, asking him. 

The elder chuckled, whispering back. "They both like each other, haha!" Changing the topic, he gathered everyone's attention. "Wanna play something named Random Play Dance?" He proposed. "It's trending amongst teens now. Look! All of us are K-pop fans, and "

"Sure!" Kaiya answered. "But... I'm a bad dancer. I'll film you guys instead!"

1 hour later...

Yume collapsed on the floor, exhausted. Koharu and Asahi joined her soon after.  "I can't believe how well you did, Ako-chan! Aria-chan too! One year ago, I never thought I'd remember the choreography of so many songs. It's all thanks to Yuzu-senpai."

"I agree." Subaru smiled at the blonde. "She was the one whom requested a change of teaching in Four Star. Without her, we'd never achieve so much. In fact, I can't imagine myself dancing like our Starlight Academy friends because we've changed so much."  

"Anyways," Kanata spoke up, "I've sent the video back to our school, and they'll post it on Wednesday." Unlike the others, he was calmly sitting on the couch, cuddling his sister while replying to a text from his secretary.

Yume pouted. "You're always talking about business-related stuff, green-head! C'mon! Let's have some fun today!"

The boy almost dropped his phone in surprise. "Where did you get this nickname from?"

Kaiya couldn't help but notice how attractive Subaru looked when he laughed. "Ako posted 'stop playing video games, green-horn, and spend time with me!' in her Insta story with an angry face, which was hidden from you."

"What?!"

"I can bear witness to that." Kaiya spoke up, breaking eye contact with Subaru. All of them looked at her, making her shiver slightly. "You have Ako-chan's private account?" 

Kaiya nodded, answering to Nozomu's question. "It's @mid_.zy, right?" 

His mouth was slightly open. "It's surprising how you can bond with the other girls so quickly." He pointed out, amazed. 

"Girls have their own methods of making friends, and I have to admit, considering Kaiya's an extrovert, it's much easier." Aria giggled.

Nozomu groaned at the thought and stood up, pouring another glass of water. "I'd never--" 

Everyone laughed. Apparently, all the boys thought the exact same thing. "I'll never get the way you girls think." The blonde male said while shrugging.

"At least you have plenty." Subaru replied with a big grin, one that almost reached his ears. Kaiya loved seeing him smile. Perhaps it was his most attractive feature, along with his sapphire blue eyes.

"To be honest, I don't have many friends in America. I have a few, but they're my best friends. Here, I've made some new friendships that I'll cherish forever, and I'm having the time of my life exploring my native culture, however I am starting to miss New York, especially my friends." Kaiya confessed with a laugh. Why would she hide it from them?  

All of them started to overlap her with sweet words. "I'm sure you'll see them in the upcoming term break. Kanata too. You'll need some rest before promoting our upcoming January comeback." Subaru lightly squeezed the fellow brunette on the shoulder.  

"I can't meet my other half-siblings. Parents' orders. Besides, Kaiya isn't going back for Christmas. Well, at least not to Empire City. Maybe she'll spend her holidays in Hillsborough." 

"Too bad." M4's leader shook his head. "At least you'll have us. Christmas is going to be huge when it comes to Four Star Academy. Perhaps Kaiya-chan can join us too!" 

He's inviting me to spend Christmas with him! I'm the luckiest fan-girl ever! Too bad there's still two months before Christmastime. Will he forget his promise...?

Kaiya returned to her apartment that night, her eyes twinkling brightly like the stars in the shining night sky, and her heart full of excitement and anticipation for the future.
