Reid Oakwald was a scout in the Survey Corps. He was not the best fighter and did not stand out in any physical means - but it was his heart of gold and his ability to care for strangers (no questions asked) that made him memorable to anyone; even if it was not his name they kept in the back of their mind.

Reid would always make sure his squad mates were well rested and safe to the best of his abilities, even if it meant almost bleeding out out of spite, just so his friend could be examined first.

Such an incident befriended him to a doctor. An incredibly intelligent woman with soft, (e/c) eyes and an easy smile.

The woman scolded Reid for his silly antics, but her laugh echoed in spite of herself. Reid was just that type of person to make one laugh in the most gruesome situations.

The female doctor then patched him up and dismissed him and his team, but not before Reid got her name.

"(y/n)," She replied brightly. "Doctor (l/n) to you, that is." She added with a wink.

Reid's buddies teased him for some time about (y/n); making fun of how red he'd turn when she was in the room, or how he found the silliest excuses to go see her. But (y/n) never refused to help him, even if it was doing a simple set of stitches that a commoner off the market would be able to do if given a small bribe.

But Reid couldn't stand not seeing her, being with her, hearing that laugh...And after a solid year of light banter and casual late-night tea parties- the pair made it official and began being involved romantically.

Reid and (y/n) were inseparable. The pair was always together whenever they had the chance. Even when their duties demanded so much - they found ways to stay by each other's side.

Everything was perfect. Their jobs as a doctor and a scout both entitled time and long distances away, but they managed it in the end. Reid made sure to write his beloved letters as frequently as possible, and (y/n) felt inclined to do the same.

And after an additional three years, the young pair was married. Their ceremony was kept a secret with no one but their closest friends to see it. Just the way they wanted it to be.

(y/n) Oakwald (l/n). Reid liked the way it sounded and teased her about putting it on her medical degree. (y/n) would roll her eyes, but sometimes she considered it. Just for him.

But Reid was more than just a husband to (y/n). He was the person that grounded her when so much death curated underneath her gifted hands. He was her rock in the raging river of this profession she worked so hard to obtain. Some days she wanted to quit, for everything to just stop and be over with; but Reid was always there, reassuring her and urging her to work even when she almost broke down at the thought of returning to the medical wing the next day. Reid was her everything, and (y/n) didn't think she would have lasted this long without him.

Unbeknownst to her, Reid felt the same. (y/n) was his stars in the dark, cloudy days that consisted of being a scout. She was his home when he had no where to go to rest his aching head. She was everything he didn't deserve. Even when she drifted away and wasn't (y/n) - when tears streaked her cheeks and her body shook from the stress - Reid loved her and wouldn't want anyone else to he his wife.

Gods, Reid could never fathom the adoration he had for the talented women at his side; the doctor who laughed at his silliness and brought him so much joy in times of despair and sorrow. Reid loved her so very much, and couldn't imagine a world without (y/n) in it. Without that woman who had such strength and courage to do what she did every day.

But the world is cruel. And even joyous things such as love are short lived.

Reid Oakwald died four months after the wedding ceremony. His body was too maimed to be burried or retrieved - all thanks to an infamous smiling titan that the reports described.

A friend of his retrieved what he could and gifted (y/n) the last unsent letter, and Reid's wedding band. The widowed doctor put the ring on a thin chain that she wore around her neck day and night, and the folded letter in her pocket that she kept on her persons at all times.

In times of stress she clutched onto what was left of him, and she swore the thin band and paper warmed under her touch - as if to let her know that Reid was always there; his presence continuing to watch over her all these years.

Just a little longer. That voice - his voice - urged her. Just hold on a little longer, my love.

So (y/n) did. She held her ground and continued being a doctor for the scouting regiment, doing everything in her power to prevent people from joining her deceased husband in the afterworld. Some days she failed and cried for her lost love in the dark of
night, with no one there to console her. For Reid was the person to do so - but he was no longer there holding her hand nor hugging her tight.

But...some days she succeeded. And (y/n)  continued to live for those days of victory for a very, very long time.

Death was her demise, her greatest enemy. It took everything from her. But (y/n) refused to let it win.

Reid wouldn't have allowed it. He would have wanted her to keep going, to keep holding on.

So (y/n) would. For her sake as much as Reid's. She would not falter. She would not yield.

She was (y/n) (l/n) and she would keep holding on.

For Reid - her love, her world, her husband.

Reid.

Her everything.
