Ryoko could hear the banging on her door and an irritated Dabi on the other side of it. "I know you're in there!" the patchwork man shouted at the wooden door. Ryoko was leaning against the counters in her kitchen having it being the only blind spot from the windows from her current location. She prayed he would leave as she once again felt the pain of thorns climbing up her lungs. She couldn't hold back any longer as she began to cough. A brilliant shade of blue escaped her lips as she coughed up petals and flowers. Blood trickled down her chin as she tried to silence her coughing.
Dabi and ryoko had been friends almost since birth. They spent every moment together and until recently she never realized her feelings had steadily been growing into something more. Once she realized her feelings the pain of the hanahaki disease began to spread. As soon as she understood what was happening she distanced herself from the league until she kept herself locked away. She never wanted dabi to find out but yet here he was threatening to break her door down.
Dabi had enough of her antics as if he wouldn't notice her slowly disappearing. He finally said fuck it and kicked her door down, walking straight to her kitchen having known her hiding spot for years. "Ryoko im-" he was about to tell her off but froze when he saw her sitting there, bloody flowers pouring from her mouth, her still continuing to cough up more. He wasted no time kneeling next to her checking her over hoping to see how far along this had gotten.
Ryoko refused to look at him until he pulled her chin up harshly. "Who's fault is this. I'll fucking kill them." he growled out, he gripped her shoulder harshly and shook her. "Tell me ryoko." ryoko knew his anger wasn't directed at her but she still flinched at his tone. She was never scared of him, and even now he didn't scare her. It was the thought of losing him if he knew the truth, or worse forgetting her feelings for him if he forced her to remove the rapidly growing flowers. She would sooner die then forget a single moment with him. "It doesn't matter dabi, it won't change the outcome." her voice was hoarse from coughing but she managed to smile softly at him, reassuring him as she always had.
This time however it didn't work as he just got more angry at her acceptance of defeat. "The hell it won't. Come on we are getting this shit fixed right now. If you don't give me a name im taking you to get it removed. Im not letting you die on me." he stood and yanked her up by her arm ignoring her protests. "Dabi no! I don't want to forget!" she cried trying to pry her arm away from his grasp but failed miserably. She didn't have much choice now, she had to confess. With a heavy heart she dug her heels in and blurted it out. "Its you asshole! You're the one im in love with." this made dabi stop. He let go of her, not able to turn around and face her. "How long" his question was short and filled with tension. She stared at the back of his head unsure of how to answer. "About a month." and before she could utter another word he left. Walking out of her apartment and back to the hideout to figure this out.
A month? She kept this deadly secret from him for a whole damn month. He knew something was up but this? He felt like an idiot, and he was the cause of it. He sat on his bed and looked at his only personal belonging, a photo he had of the two of them just before joining the league. A bright smile stretched across her face and him looking bored as usual. He smiled at the picture but soon somberd at the situation he was in, he needed to figure out if he really loved her back or not. If not, how he was going to convince her to save herself.

Weeks had passed since ryoko last seen dabi and she assumed she scared him off for good. Her condition only escalated as it now seemed thorny vines had started to make their way into her throat. She didn't have much longer left, her breathing labored trying to work around the massive blockage. She feared she wouldn't get the chance to say goodbye to him. Her apartment was littered with petals in a brilliant shade of blue, if it wasn't killing her she would find the sight rather beautiful.
Another fit of coughing and flowers came out, only this time they were not alone. She started gasping as the thorny vines grabbed hold of the soft tissue in her throat as they began spilling out of her mouth. Her throat was completely blocked and she could no longer get air. The vines dripped in blood and flowers bloomed. She collapsed trying desperately to breathe, to live, in hopes of seeing him one last time.
She died there on her floor, her body covered in the beautiful foliage. She would never know if he came back for her or not, no one did. One thing was for certain though, dabi became a more heartless villain after that day, he no longer cared about this world and was willing to watch it all burn.
