Zack Torres.
Zack Torres has always been one of my best friends. Although we're both from two complete different social circles - we were the cats to the dogs.
Our moms were friends, which them led on to the his older brother to be friends with my older step-brother and his little sister to be friends with mine. But of course we were always the closest, like brother and sister.
But when it came to high school, I went off to the popular clique - becoming more interested in my looks and partying every weekend. He preferred the library and science club and well the opposite of me.
The years haven't been the same without him and to be honest made me miserable. It wasn't the same without him. I haven't spoken to him for three years but I still missed him.
The first day back after summer break was now over and we were all getting ready to start our senior year.
The wind howls as the students arrive through the gates, hustling and bustling down the corridors. Friends are greeting each other with a hug or a playful punch while newcomers stand looking scared. The seniors stand, tall and proud, confidence born of experience. Soon the bells ring and everybody runs except an occasional slowcoach or chatterbox.
I strutted in with my 'minions' Nia and Chloe.
We ruled this school together but me more in charge if it all.
The other students parted like the Red Sea as I walked down the hall. Everyone's eyes glued onto me.
Just like usual.
I headed up to my locker and hoped it would be a quick trip.
Boy was I wrong.
A load of junior and some seniors came up to me and lamely flirted with me.
If it was me last year I would have taken it all in and led them all on to believing I actually liked them, but I stayed true to my promises.
Last year I partied really hard and went off with loads of guys. In between all of this I dated some boys. I truly believed it was true love, until they dumped me and left me heartbroken. I gave my heart away to easily. It always came back to hit me in the face eventually.
So I decided I was no longer going to date until I graduate, get my school work out the way until I give my heart to someone who deserves it and won't break it.
I got saved by the bell and headed up to my next science lesson.
I marched in and got assigned my seat. I waited patiently until someone came and sat down next to me.
"Hi, I'm Maddie," I greeted, holding my hand out.
"Maddie, I know, it's me Zack," he laughed.
My jaw dropped. Three years of puberty did him well. He still wore the large, dark framed glasses he's been wearing since he was eight, but man did he look good.
"Oh.. My..God... Zack, I'm so sorry!" I squealed, delighted with the fact he's gorgeous and seeing as we'll be lab partners now.
"Haha it's okay, how are you?" He asked, his dark brown eyes looking deep into mine.
"I'm good I'm good, you?"
"Good,"
"It's been a long time," I laugh.
"I know! You've not said a word to me for three years!"
"You've changed a lot," I chuckle.
"So have you, I mean you grew up gorgeous,"
And with that last line I felt the heart twang I felt every time I give my heart away.
Holy shit.
I'm falling for him.
