After World war 2,the united states and the soviet union divided up the world into parts each would try to influence. Korea was divided into a communist North and a democratic South. Many North Koreans, unhappy with this situation, tried to escape to the South. In this story ten-year-old Sookan and her younger brother Inchun have reached the final moments of their escape attempt and hope to be reunited with their family in South Korea.
