I froze. This whole time I thought I was in the cinema alone, only to be met with a cough and, more worryingly, a voice. Panic rose within me, an emotion that doesn't occur very often. Added to this, the muffling noises continued, almost like crying. Without even thinking, I tried to work my hands around the railings and get out of there as soon as possible. I wasn't alone, and who knew who else could be in there?
As I reached the bottom of the steps, the emergency lights conveniently flicked on, much to my dismay. Turning around, I squinted my eyes at the seating and tried to scout a face. After almost a minute of looking, I spotted something. There was an outline of something in the corner. As I approached it, the person seemed to be wearing all black, and as I got closer, I noticed that they were covering their face with a fedora hat, their hands buried in it. Who in hell would be wearing a fedora hat in a cinema, and why were they still here? By the time I stood about a metre in front of the figure, I noticed they were shaking uncontrollably and snivelling. My curiosity inevitably got the better of me as I attempted to notify this person that I was there.
'Hello?' I asked, almost clearing my throat.
There was no response, even though the person seemed fine talking to me first when I wasn't paying attention a few minutes ago. Puzzled, I stared at the chair for a minute or two before trying again. 'Hello?' I repeated. Just as I was about to give up and drag security in, the person inhaled and unveiled a hand, slowly revealing their face and dropping their hat on the floor, exhaling deeply as a tear escaped in harmony. My face fell as realisation hit me.
